We just had six posts referencing the police chief

from Grand Isle stating that 10-20 people stayed along with his police force.

Those people should have been forced to evacuate yesterday that’s just silly….

as we have seen many times the past two years...good luck forcing anyone to do anything they don't want to do no matter what the risks are

We are a free country. People are free to make decisions

The people who stayed chose poorly but it is what it is. You just shrug your shoulders here and hope for the best

What a historic situation for Louisiana in back to back years. The Grand Isle surge camera is nothing short of stunning.

Grand Isle is getting a beating right now. I can't stop thinking of those who stayed... please let there be a miracle.

They didn’t. 28 stayed as well as first responders.

It's horrific on Grand Isle. Been watching the storm surge cam there for a few hours, watching debris flow by and the water rising to the point that it's now sloshing around the camera. It's virtually white out conditions now. Before long I expect the camera will be under water, though I don't know how high that storm surge camera is situated. Just hope those that stayed are high enough to escape/survive the storm surge!

Do not forget the economic impact to the country, due to numerous refineries being off line, and or throttled back. I work in a refinery and we shut down. Between the production platforms being shut down and refineries being shut down, get ready for a price spike in all fuels. It should be short-lived but with oil companies trying to find a way gracefully to shut down their US refining operations, you never know.

According to the police Chief of Grand Isle, they clocked 148 mph a short while ago, and the wind gauge broke. Said it is the worst he has ever seen there. They are in a bunker there.
He was just on the weather channel.

The only remotely positive thing about this is that landfall isn’t at night. Nighttime landfalls are terrifying — I remember how bad Sandy was even though winds were “only” high TS force where I live. I can’t even imagine how bad a 130 kt landfall would be when it’s pitch black out.

wikipedia is garbage and not a reliable source of information

I wouldn't say that as a whole, but it no longer says it's a Category 5 so I assume that was someone -removed- in that case.
