Grand Isle roofs supposedly getting peeled off, yet water still rising. I just can't comprehend this being survivable. Just gut-wrenchingly sad

too bad they didn't get the eye...by that i mean atleast they would have 20 minutes to maybe relocate

No place to relocate.

i mean, there could of been a more sturdy structure on the block somewhere or heck lol stay in the eye and follow it up Highway one

Just an aside... I've been so focused on my screens for the past few hours and absorbed in Ida that I just literally did a HUGE double take when I heard a noise outside, looked out my office window and saw the beautiful Carolina blue skies and trees absolutely still, no breeze, here in Charlotte NC today.

You know, there will come a day when the NHC's forecasts are so good there'll be nothing left to debate. Both exciting and sad...

Im hoping for a day they use technology to destroy these storms before landfall

Would be nice but... messing with nature usually has consequences.

My favorite local paper write-in suggestion was that we stage a bunch of fighter jets along the coast with their butts facing the water, then fire ‘em all up to just blow the hurricanes back out to sea

I'm trying to draw a mental picture of that?! One would think the net result would be for that section of the Mississippi to then completely over-wash it's banks as a result??

It's just gravity. The water on the south end of the canal is now higher then the water on the north end.

Really???? Just curious if the dude's arm was still attached to his hand-held anemometer when that reading took place. That or.... what oil rig did he get flown out too and at what elevation was it? Seems like a questionable reading.
