He did say make it stop. It is quite clear, and they have played it every 5 minutes. Sad stuff, but I'm sure he will be fine in the building since it's designed for a 200 mph hurricane. As for the chaser wind report, that's flat impossible.

You know, there will come a day when the NHC's forecasts are so good there'll be nothing left to debate. Both exciting and sad...

Im hoping for a day they use technology to destroy these storms before landfall

that could cause its own problems, they have a function that could ripple worse issues if they were not present.
Learning how to build and live in those coastal areas would be good. We have seen houses standing when all others around were destroyed

Worse ripple issues is a consideration.

I have heard that, as devastating as hurricanes are, we need them to help cool the ocean temps each summer....balance.

Got to give the NHC major props. They were constantly warning of a Cat 4 landfall back when Ida was still in the Caribbean. They stuck by that statement.

Models were pretty good too (which of course the NHC uses to forecast). Many of the main ones were consistently in the high 930s to low 940s at landfall, and the landfall crossing point was very close to where they said it would be days ago.

Based on all the data, I'm guessing it peaked at 1200Z at 135 kt with a pressure of 929 mb. As far as landfall, I would set it at 125 kt based on slight weakening on radar and Recon.

Checking in from Hammond, La. After having the hardest best sleep Ive had in a week! In one of those 50's built brick Ranch Tanks, Good internet and whole house gas generator, So may be able to post a while longer than most....Though have to admit I regret not leaving myself, but with my husband having to work until this morning. There's a pretty remarkable report of 130 kt sustained on an oil rig. It would be an elevated report, but it's extremely unlikely this observation captured the maximum surface winds within the storm.
