I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

A berm on the beach? The beach has been under water for hours…

I don't live there but I have a few relatives who are riding out the storm near Hammond (specifically Ponchatoula). One actually lives in Hammond but didn't want to stay at his house because his neighborhood floods easily. Kind of wish they had at least checked into a hotel, but...oh well. Their homes seem sturdy enough, I think, and none of those tall pines nearby, but I'm more worried about the lakes on either side.

Hammond flooding can be bad in certain areas. Ponchatoula it can def be bad especially with surge from the lakes.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about that. At least my brother has a second story, but my aunt's place doesn't (where my uncle from Hammond is staying), but she does have an attic at least.

PLEASE PLEASE pass on the info to not go into attic unless they have a heavy axe or chainsaw to cut their way out!!! Also bring water, food, and a white or light colored bed shee to use to signal, possibly even a can of spray paint

Sorry. A couple of people posted that water breached a levee there.

I mean the levy would have been under 10 feet of water hours ago anyway. A levy's structural integrity is irrelevant if its topped.

The chaser in Galliano, jokko, has a great sport for the eyewall. The only question is do they see tomorrow.

Presumably a topped levee would A) slow the flow of water considerably compared to a failed levee, and would allow the interior area to be pumped dry after the storm.

It is a beach community. Beaches do not have levees. There are berms but they do nothing in a major hurricane.

If anything, it looks to be strengthening! The east side that looked weak earlier is filling back in with deeper convection.
