As Ida makes the turn northward, the distance between the eyewall and the 'true' coastline along the north shore is going to decrease. This will rapidly funnel more water into Lake Pontchartrain as that surge/pile of water to the north and east will have nowhere else to go.

My buddy Alec Scholten is with Mark I believe in Raceland. yeah Really glad that the eye is clearing again over land so they can see that stadium effect. I don't know how Ida is doing it but she appears to be looking better the past few frames.

Laplace, LA also not having a good time based on those webcams linked to above. One ground-level building looks like it is slowly getting dismantled by 4-5 feet of surge and waves hitting the building.

Ots is really getting rough now in Western New Orleans, winds are ripping outside. I originally was going to attempt to intercept the eye in Norco, but had to abort, no shelter good enough for a cat 4 there. Looks like we are going to get the eyewall here. Very bad situation

Since it made the north turn early, could it also make the turn to the northeast early and end up getting much closer to new Orleans?

Latest advisory says 130 mph “Sustained” winds, are there any “Sustained” winds anywhere near that being reported?

Crazy that Ida still looks this good after landfall. I’m guessing (?) that there won’t be any serious weakening until after it clears Lake Mourpas/Pontchertrain.

I'm watching all the camera feeds from Hurricanetrack. Areas are getting beat up hard in many spots.

Ida looks better five hours after landfall than it did over the loop current in the GOM.. :double: :double:

All western motion has stopped and it's clearly going due north with NNE wobbles. So the eye could actually come really close to the western New Orleans suburbs at this trajectory..
