Has Mark Sudduth launched his weather balloons yet?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Not yet, you can watch it on his live feed. They are just barely in the eye, on the edge. It's wobbling around so they aren't in the clear yet.

Have you ever been to that part of Louisiana? Land is a relative term. Mostly swamp grass and some trees in water.

By the way, I measured a 2-hr movement toward 001 deg at 7 kts.

That's about the worst of all worlds for everyone north and east of this monster. Wow.

My son is fine (thank god for the wobble east). A lot wind damages and poles down. Tree took out my sister's living room, but they were able to get out and are staying with a neighbor. Lost contact with my neice and my brothers but hoping they good.

Heh, to put things in perspective, Houma and Panama City are the same size, population-wise. Hurricane Ida will be having a higher impact than Hurricane Michael, even taking away all the industrial sites.

Good to see I am not the only one annoyed by that. I remember the days when the Weather channel would cover the storms instead of this crap.

The question is did they put the dumpster there on purpose or was it blown there by itself…

On Facebook I begged the rest of my family and friends back in Nola to get out of the city after Ida became a strong Cat 4 and the 06z GFS trended much closer to the city, that there was plenty of time to get out of the city before conditions worsened but 99% of them decided to ride it out, only one of my nieces with her family got out at 6 AM, made it to Lafayette to their friend's house in no time, no traffic at all.
Now the city is 90% without power with the strongest winds yet to come with the eye now moving much closer to the city.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I appreciate all the links. Lots of incredible video and live streams.

Thanks!!

Mark Sudduth in the eye. I think he times the balloon release when they are closest to the center.
