Forgot to mention in my post above that one bit of news that was new to me on the ABC national news was the report that Grand Isle is now without any source of fresh drinking water. Haven't yet seen any details. I'll keep an eye out...

Welp I stop watching for a little bit and she turns toward the north at New Orleans metro.. this will not be good I'm afraid after viewing these live streams. Metro areas turn into a mess when conditions are this bad. Hold those levees! Yikes.

This rivals some of Josh's video from Dorian. The last 30-40 seconds is insane.

Mark Sudduth's cams in Laplace, LA going in and out with their transmissions now, getting overtopped with 8-9ft. of surge.

Also, the sun is setting. Gonna be a dreadful night of alarming sounds in the black of night for a lot of people...

That's really terrifying. I don't remember any other recent storm that had this many amazing webcam / chaser videos from diverse locations. Yes. there were some gripping videos from Michael. But there are so many astounding videos from this storm. I can only pray it will really help educate people about the risks from major canes.

It took 6 hours after landfall but it's finally clearly weakening. Eye becoming cloud-filled. Structure is still impressive though, those spiral bands are still very clear on IR.

I know someone already linked this full thread here.... it's an amazing discussion about the decision-making process about evacuating or not evacuating NOLA. But these three tweets are just devastating and are going to have to be grappled with by emergency planners.

Just let this sink in. It takes longer to evacuate a major city than for a storm to go from minimal TS to Cat 5. WOW. That changes the game folks.

The area around la place…st Charles parish and St. John parish… I fear will be some of the standout damage of this storm. Much of the lower parishes are tidal and the communities smaller, but those parishes, I believe have a lot of population outside of levee protection. Going to be a tough few hours there for sure.

Yes, some of our coastal cities are just too large now to order entire city evacs considering how much lead time they need.

Wow those waves are just unbelievable, and the wind sounds like a demon. I could only imagine a person in those conditions, scary to think that a person who is present there is basically a goner.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.
