I'm thinking this power grid situation might lead to something terrible. I wouldn't think there's enough generators to keep the pumps going. This storm is going to test those levees to the max. Hopefully they hold

Cantore at TWC said he saw more ponding and poorer drainage since the power got knocked out in New Orleans on Canal street. LaPlace and Kenner getting hammered by the northeastern eyewall. Rainfall already 5-8 inches for a storm total in that area.

It's just so sad because it didn't have to be this way...a place like a nursing home should have been evacuated based on what happened after Katrina.

It doesn't say that the nursing home had residents in it. Those barges (22 of them) are lose in St Bernard's Parish on the Mississippi river are the big worry, they can go crashing into the levees and cause severe damage that can lead to catastrophic flooding. The catastrophic power failure is another big hit that will last for days if not weeks.

Yes, 22 of them. And there was at least one bridge strike in Jefferson Parish already.

A potential track for forecast extreme rainfall in the coming days. Pay attention. As communities in Tennessee and Western NC know all too well from recent events in the past 2 weeks, inland flash flooding from extreme rainfall events can be sudden and deadly.

I'm directly in the center of some of the heaviest rainfall here in PA...lots of places here have been completely soaked all summer and we had Fred and Henri dump a ton of rain too. I've seen anywhere from 3 to 11 inches of rain on some of the models in south central PA :/

I'd seen pictures of this building collapse in NOLA before, but had not seen the building identified. It's always tragic when a piece of cultural history gets destroyed by a storm.
