Love you all! Thank you so much for the info.

If any meteorologists watching or if yall know of any yall can get a word to. PLEASE tell them to add wording to their social media posts with details of locations. Same with location and conditions of the storm. Been difficult seeing posts with "TORNADO WARNING FOR AREA IN RED TAKE SHELTER!" Then only see a gray box below it

Isn't that the same town the major pleaded YESTERDAY for his residents to evacuate? Is that Susan Roesgen post just a "joke" or troll?

"Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday."

She was a long time reporter on tv here and would be credible as a source.

She’s a blue check verified Twitter account and the on-air anchor at WGNO TV. Watched a steaming broadcast tonight.

I was hoping someone was mimicking her post; but I did check her page after your note: and she did report the above.

IE: as usual, there are some very stupid/stubborn anit-science humans inundated by a surge that they were warned repeatedly was coming. And now valuable rescue resources will be diverted to save their butts.

Obviously an elevated measurement but I believe this might be one of the highest surface readings ever recorded in CONUS. Sustained wind of 130kt and gust to 150kt is almost unheard of. Any details on the elevation of the instrument?

Super impressive winds, but the mountains out west will give you a run for the record.

https://www.sfgate.com/weather/article/ ... 488795.php

Also I believe the CONUS record is 234 mph (195 kts) on Mt Washington.

Mt. Washington isn’t out west, it’s in New Hampshire. :sun:

Well since the recent Lifetime Movie "Psyco Storm Chaser" featuring a serial killer using landfalling hurricanes as cover, I can understand strangers coming out of nowhere during a hurricane might make some suspicious.

Situation is so dire in Laplace and Lafitte right now. Basically, most places outside the federal levees are underwater in SE Louisiana.

Let's see how long I can manage on here. I am under a Tropical Storm Warning and we have strong winds coming tomorrow during the day and early evening (plus rain).

The 129KT ship report was likely at certain elevation and therefore adjustment to the standard 10m is necessary. But it should be noted that according to Nolan (2014), if only a single station was hit by the right front quadrant, winds would be undersampled by as much as 10%.

The two factors (elevation and undersampling) would likely cancel out each other, so if this report is verified, the landfall intensity can be assessed with high confidence at 130KT. This also means the early stages of ERC did not drag down the inner core winds at all.

In any event, it’s extremely rare to have surface observations recording such intense winds.

A ship's superstructure can funnel and accelerate winds, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Anthem Of The Seas reported 120mph to even 180mph +winds for this reason in the remnants of Tropical Storm Hermaine. Obviously, the remnants of Tropical Storm Hermaine didn't have winds equal to a major hurricane.

From author Dennis Mersereau...

@wxdam — The endless stream of tweets from people posting their address pleading for rescue from flooding is haunting.

From a meteorologist with NWS New Orleans...

@ulmwxr — Our comms are down, we have barely any cell service, no phone lines, power is out everywhere, and people are clinging not their roof to survive and we can’t do anything about it. I feel so helpless and mad at the same time.

@16WAPTNews — UPDATE: More than a dozen fires reported across Kenner, LA but fire crews unable to respond.

"Unfortunately, the department has very low water pressure because of the numerous breaks in the parish’s water system due to downed trees."

High winds are also slowing response.

Thanks, but now that I'm able to catch up on some news it’s hardly comparable to anything.

Also do not post this person or that person needs rescuing, we had hundreds of false reports during Harvey and as we went to hundreds of addresses wasting valuable resources and fuel only to be led to another bogus call. The disinformation and false news is getting ridiculous on here today.

That's just the awful thing with social media like twitter/facebook etc. Anyone can post anything without unverified sources and people just instantly believe it which is how you get people with all these weird beliefs now lol. It's just the sad reality of the world today. There will always be people out there trying to take advantage of others even if it's as simple as wasting their time with fake calls.

I'm hoping the people who truly do need help get the help they need and people trying to rescue others don't have their time wasted. Because any amount of time wasted by fake reports could be a matter of life or death for someone who's actually in trouble
