I would be really surprised if they name the system as soon as it comes off of Africa, so highly doubt August 31st. So going with Sept 1st - 3rd. I think they will give it at least 24 hours over water to name it a TD and another 12 to 24 hours over water before naming it a TS.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Invest 90L is most likely going to be Larry, but the system in the Western Atlantic could spin up a quick-but-powerful hurricane.

I'm thinking now I should have picked Sept. 1. I saw that 90/90 yesterday and picked today. I was too eager.

Lol I misunderstood the question. I read it as “when will Larry form?” Not “when will Larry be named?” and was wondering why so few people picked today.

While Larry was operationally named at 09z on September 1, the 00z best track was revised to 35 kt. So the 3 people who voted August 31 could be considered correct in local time, while the vast majority are correct in UTC.
