Re: ATL: LARRY - Hurricane - Discussion
Any advantages for Larry having such a forward speed besides not quickly weakening?

Larry was holding up great, even had an eyewall and once he pulled north of Sable Island he just completely eroded and rapidly transitioned.

Re: ATL: LARRY - Hurricane - Discussion
Still tropical per NHC. I'd argue personally for a higher intensity based on ASCAT and surface data - I would set it at 75-80 kt right now.

Landfall is likely less than an hour away. Should clear Newfoundland before 1200Z and the waters northeast of the island are inhospitable.

It still looks tropical to me. The deep convection is still holding near the center. May have even deepened slightly.

Link to EC weather stations in Newfoundland. Some tweets from some private stations reporting some big gusts on extreme coastal areas, nothing too eye opening here yet, will be interesting to keep an eye on over the next couple of hours.

Cape St. Mary's gusted to 97 mph, which is an exposed site to the east. It was not yet in the eyewall though.

Re: ATL: LARRY - Hurricane - Discussion
Larry is just blazing by at 47mph lol
But yeah as someone else said it does still look pretty tropical from what I've seen
Another thing that's crazy is Larry is one of the lowest pressure category 1 hurricanes on record. Sandy was lower and Igor was close to this type of pressure as a cat 1

Probably the most tropical looking storm I've seen hit Canada since Hurricane Juan in 2003.

I think 958mb is the lowest I have ever seen for a Cat 1. Wow

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

Hurricane force winds reported at coastal locations. Luckily the worst has already passed due to rapid forward speed of the system.
