Dude...Nick is literally Typhoon Tip compared to the great Hurricane Barry of 2019

IR shows a blocking flat line to the EAST and SOUTH, and on radar it seems like a northern movement has started. that would definitely make NHC track make sense.

Besides the obvious Hurricane Barry that others mentioned, Humberto 2007 (which someone posted in the thread a while ago) also has a similar satellite presentation as Nicholas right now despite less shear.

I was wondering if this had already made it's def Eastern turn well ahead of schedule. But NHC does say it will move north into Houston.

same here . I don't know how someone could sleep through a storm
Depends on the storm... but even when I do sleep during a storm, it is only naps, with frequent status-checks.
Geeze, I just remembered that when I was a kid during Hurricane Alicia, I totally slept through it. I got up once and looked through a peep-hole in a boarded-up window. Thought it looked cool how the tree in the front yard was swaying. My parents acted like it was no big deal - specifically so we kids would not be scared.
Now I feel really old. I worked Alecia for HL&P. I lived in west Houston and wasn't affected, but the east side was hit pretty hard.

Wind and rain picking up in Orange County. Nothing major. Just breezy with a slow, steady rainfall.

Hurricane Earl by far (1998) is the ugliest, shown here at peak intensity as a Cat 2(!):

I wouldn't speak so soon on that looks like areas in Jefferson County south of I-10 are going to see very heavy rainfall still
Jefferson County is a different metro area. For the Houston area, mostly dry.
those crazy numbers aren't going to pan out that's for sure...I consider Jefferson County a "surrounding area" atleast it feels that way to me as many trips as I've made there from Houston
It’s kind of it’s own thing though. Allies but no one in Beaumont or Port Arthur say they are from around Houston.

Winds are starting to pick up in Cypress. Getting breezy with some light gusting. I'm sorry I don't have a way to give measurements, but it has become noticeable with swaying trees and can be easily heard.
Stay safe everyone.

Actually do I need to show you Barry? also its not that bad, at least convection is decent. Just don't get me started on Barry.

Yep, that one had 25kts of westerly shear with it but this one seems to be holding despite 25kts southerly shear

it depends who you're talking to...in state you say "Beaumont" if you're from say Nederland or Port Neches...out of state you say Houston Area

The dew point here is below 70F. Not what you would expect with a storm still to the west of this longitude. Lots of dry air to the north and west.

A couple of hours ago, like SoupBone, I would have said that there's nothing going on in Alvin except for some steady rain in nice, relatively cool air. Now it's pretty obvious that a storm's a-brewin' -- tree-bending gusts and bursts of driving rain.
