Re: ATL: NICHOLAS - Tropical Storm - Discussion
A side-note I thought was interesting - we are already at 8 storms making landfall in the U.S. this year. Last year set the record with 11. The record before that was 9, and we're already almost at the old record by mid-September.

In Orange and nothing exciting yet. Typical afternoon and evening thundershowers are far more exciting. Maybe we're just missing the bands.
And right on Que, we get a little gust of maybe 20 MPH wind.
Last nights ballgame was far more exciting.

a radar illusion right?loon wrote:Radar eyes are messing with me again this morning, i swear that spin is heading back into the GOM, i know some models predicted maybe that would happen. *bears watching* I guess. got about 4" of rain here in downtown, 35.2 MPH winds sustained at peak.
NHC saying NE at 6mph so just radar eyes again. Non-well defined center getting us I'm sure.

Back in New Orleans where it's steadily raining. I managed to find some tarps and 1 by's for the house while in Slidell, but you can't really handle that stuff up when it's raining. Nicholas is turning out to be more eventful than I thought it would be here. :/ It's only 10:30, and I've already gotten soaked three times today.

Stalling, slowing down from 12 mph to 6 right now, will pump more moisture into SETX and Louisiana

Agreed, almost a carbon copy of Humberto. A little less shear and this would have been a much bigger issue.
I was watching cllosely, especially when the eye relocations began. We were very fortunate here in Houston metro. Don't get me wrong, there are homes with trees in them and awnings and gas station canopies down, but overall we were "lucky". I've already seen people calling the forecat a bust.

A little late to the party but had sustained winds of 30-37 miles per hour with a gust up to 50 in Katy last night. Dropped off fast this morning. Had a couple of branches and fences down. But only 1.02 inches of rain for the event.

They are stating dry air is sapping this storm's strength and thats why Houston is not even getting that much rain. There was more dry air than expected.

Excepted by who? Official forecast calls for not much at all, unfortunately LA is getting most of the rain.

Nick looks a lot further south than the NHC has it with the low level clouds. It may pump up some qpf with areas that think that they are done with it.

This is an interesting look at Nicholas via the latest vis sat loops… sure looks like the motion is due east… I think the 12z HRRR showed Old Nick hugging the coastline east all the way to AL.

I'm not sure about that . . .
But still, Nicholas was a very crazy storm to track!
