Its not Al Qaida m/o to attack during holy seasons. They usually try to strike when least expected.

RIYADH (Reuters) - Eleven people were killed, including four children, and 122 injured when suspected al Qaeda suicide bombers blew up an explosive-laden car in a Riyadh housing compound on Sunday, the state news agency SPA said.
"Eleven people were killed from Saudi, Sudanese and Egyptian nationalities, among them four children," SPA quoted an Interior Ministry official as saying. He said 122 people were wounded, mostly Arabs.

Diplomats have earlier estimated that the blast, which coincided with the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, killed between 20 and 30 people and injured up to 100 in the residential compound.

SPA said four Americans, including two children, and six Canadians, including two children, were among the injured. Earlier, diplomats said some of the Westerners might have dual nationalities.

The rest of the wounded were from Africa, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, Turkey, Sri Lanka and Romania.

The agency did not say if there were more people missing under the rubble at the 200-villa compound where the powerful blast ripped an avenue of destruction.

The suicide attack occurred after Western nations issued fresh terror alerts and Washington shut its missions in the kingdom, the world's biggest oil exporter.

Yeah...I see it. I expect an attack anytime but I donot become more or less concerned based on special dates on the Islamic or historical calender. Al Qaeda in the past does not perform these type of symbolic attacks. I probably should have clarified better. I guess I'm more concerned about the spetacular attacks like WTC, the Cole, and the African Embassy bombings. While sad and regrettable, I'm not impressed by car bomb attacks. Unfortunately there are plenty of despots willing to do those type of attacks. Thats all I was trying to say.

If you read the Al Qaida "playbook", it specifically mentions ignoring Islamic traditions, holidays, dress, grooming, prohibitions, etc. to achieve its goals.

And if its operatives kill Muslims in the process, "Be not troubled for the brothers who perish, if they were among the faithful, for they will ascend to Paradise."

This "justifies" any heinous action at any time against any target anywhere.

Yes, josephine96...it's given in 11 volumes, each one touching on a different subject (bomb-making, how to blend in while visiting non-Muslim countries, etc.).

The FBI has found and translated several copies taken from the 9-11 hijackers' effects (not from the downed planes, but hotel rooms, cars, etc.) and later, from others they've arrested.

Nasty stuff, this.

I might be able to scare up a web site about them but not sure about in print. I will look later on for if you like but I just got new attack warning. I have to go over it real quick. I may need some ideas from you all on a coded type message that we are looking into. Stand by and hold on tight.

Some of the content of these books was aired on cable news stations...there may be a website that has translations in full, but I have yet to see one.

I'd like to read the entire 11 volumes..."If one is to defeat an enemy, know his mind".

I am not panicing. I don't think it is good to panic, but I think that this info. is worthwhile. Thanks for sharing Beer980 even though I don't understand half of what is being discussed.

Well if you have questions I might be able to answer some so you will be able to understand 3/4 of it  Some of the stuff I translate is really hard to read. There are different levels of translation out there I guess. Maybe it's the free translation that I am using. This is a no panic zone. Just be alert and prepared. I have another warning to post but I don't want to panic anyone by too much info. The intel is just flowing in and thats the part that has me worried. I have a feeling that we may have to go up to orange alert soon. Just know that there is some other info that the government is going over that we can't see.

There are many sites online that post the details of this stuff and yes, even the "playbooks" that have been translated can be obtained. But you have to buy them of course. The books in their original state were found in terrorist 'safe houses' and in locations around the world; caves. That information is almost 2 years old.

Everyone has an opinion. Mine is this: you can't just 'bomb' the living begeezes out of scattered, non-hierarchal groups who don't live or hang together in person. How many countries do you think they live in? Two, three, ten? You don't think they're right here in the States? Ever hear of the Lackawanna Six? Go read up. Most of these guys communicate only via the Internet and change locations often. They send messages. They don't use cell phones (anymore). They communicate alot by courier as they LEARN and change their modus operendii when something goes wrong - they adapt. They study us and our way of life all the time, it never stops. We have to do the same. This isn't the time to whine and say oh dear, oh dear...sorry.
