I have to recommend Mystic River for some of the best acting (Tim Robbins, and almost as good is Sean Penn) I've ever seen.

I am far from a movie buff you can get (180°)
I have only seen 25 to 30 movies in the movie theatre in my 26.3 years of life.
(I turned 26.3 years old on Tuesday, November 4th at 1:40am) Over half of them I have seen with one of my brother's.
The first movie I saw in a movie theatre was "The Muppets Take Manhattan" and I believe the second was "Three Men and a Baby."
If 'you' can't follow the plot, why see a movie?

I can't say that I am a movie buff, but Mystic River does look good. So does "Radio" and "Masters and Commanders" with Russell Crowe.
My favorite movies of all time (no particular order);
- On Golden Pond
- Turning Point
- Four Seasons
- When Harry Met Sally
- Same Time Next Year
- Julia
- Platoon
- Glory
- Dances with Wolves (though I can't watch the end
)
- Armaggedon
- Hunt for Red October
