Hold up! I don't recall 70 Degrees in December in Northern Texas before!

Low temperatures this morning in the DFW area were in the mid- to upper-60s.

I am sure it dropped a couple more degrees but at the time of the post, and according to the NBC affiliate it was in fact 70 degrees. The official temp recording station for DFW is located at DFW International and the NBC studios are located 3 miles from the airport. So it was either a station reading or the airport reading. Regardless, it was way too warm for a December morning, at least in my opinion. With the airport located in the center of the Metro, the readings there run a bit warmer than the surrounding areas.

So far the weather apps Christmas week are pretty normal ish definitely nothing extreme. We'll see how they trend but I mean normal would still be way better than this  hopefully at least it won't be a torch even if there's no winter weather (although at this point can't rule anything out)

Latest CPC forecast still looks terrible.

Ok, I’m now confused. Are the teleconnections lining up, or not?

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Yeah, I hear ya. They’ve busted so many times that I don’t really trust them too much anymore either. I still feel like they’re worth mentioning though.

Fort Worth starting to bite on the pattern change last sentence in the AFD

Eventually it does look like some colder air
will make a surge southward with some rain chances, it may just be
delayed beyond the current 7 day forecast period.

They are improving.

1. The warmth pattern now is a result of the poor teleconnections (++EPO/+AO/+NAO), mjo, and Nina forcing since late October. It will reflect at the surface the coming week with the US national torch.

2. The tropical forcing has begun to shift out of the poor position and consequently the teleconnections are improving. The biggest change being the Pacific.

3. With the changing teleconnections a front/cold air mass from source region is showing up in the medium to long range around the solstice that models did not have before. Likely a result of the Pacific flow giving in a little to allow cold to bully down with the slight opening.

4. If we are to gain fruit from the negative oscillations it would be after Christmas that the dam could break but that is beyond field of view. It may not, but prospects certainly look better than endless +EPO fast flow we have been dealing with.

Also just want to mention there's a lot of confusing forecasts out there as well.

For the West and Central US the -PNA and -EPO together can benefit us. A lot of the forecasts are East Coast centric which even with a -EPO the -PNA can ruin their odds. So with that considered the western and middle of the country is more likely to benefit from such a pattern. If things go wrong with the -PNA the eastern US will torch right through January. Just keep in mind where they are forecasting for.

I must say, I'm not liking the last several GFS runs for around the 19th-22nd. I'd much rather have mid-80s Christmas week. There's always hope that my cold air diverter will hold up and drive the air east across the Ohio Valley.

Subtle hint? Bring it for Christmas please.

Winds have finally somewhat died down here around Wichita Falls but there are still some big fires being battled in the area. A few small towns were evacuated and the Ag barn at Electra high school caught fire and some of the animals couldn't be rescued. They have declared a disaster declaration for Wichita county. Praying for the firefighters and the people that lost homes and property.
