Not just that, we may have just got the Tri-State Tornado from Arkansas to Missouri to Tennessee. :(

Facebook friend said a cousin was killed in Arkansas. Wow. I fear there may be more deaths tonight than in a long time.

I know this isn't the severe weather thread but I'm going to post it here anyway. I'm generally not a fan of trying to guess EF ratings right after a storm hits but I think there's a decent chance the EF5 drought is over. Found this on twitter, this study is usually pretty spot on:
https://twitter.com/CC_StormWatch/statu ... 7037233152

It's literally off the chart. Absolutely unbelievable and this will likely end up as one of the most destructive storms of all time IMO. Praying for everyone involved, absolutely horrifying event. Already seeing reports of fatalities... Heartbreaking

From what Im seeing this this is the same Tornado, and has been on the ground for over two hours across FOUR states and is packing a 20 mile wide debris field! There are no words...

Yeah if it gets confirmed as a single track, it should be the all time record (I think its at like 230-240 miles right now and counting). However I think it may have lifted and cycled briefly right before it crossed into KY. We'll see what the surveys say, obviously no guarantee that's its a 5 or even a 4 but lofting debris to literally passenger jet cruising altitude is flat out remarkable.
Definitely the most unbelievable supercell I've ever tracked.

I realize Tornadoes are different from Hurricanes but this Im feeling, because its my personal frame of reference... There are no words... Being in SE Louisiana, This thing is like a Cat 5 tracking over two hundred miles inland & not losing strength! I dont even want to think about what we will wake up to tomorrow. My heart is breaking for these people

Memphis had a couple tornado warnings a little while ago but I don't think anything touched down as of right now. Currently a large tornado on the ground near the KY/TN border (not the same one as earlier). All these areas are going to have to be watched for the next several hours though.

EDIT: Now there is a confirmed tornado NE of Memphis

Horrific night last night. Seeing reports of numerous deaths and much devastation this morning. Was following the tornado outbreak and the long tracked violent storms on Twitter. So many crazy bad radar images from Kentucky, just a sick feeling knowing what first light would reveal. Many prayers for those impacted.

I notice that the Euro has no snow in Texas through the 20th. It's about 10 deg warmer than the GFS.

Totally understand the 4-5 day thing. We're not talking blasting cold, we're discussing how this torch is coming to an end for the Central US. And especially for those east of the MS it may not end until the new year. The further west you are the sooner it will end.

If you read back in this thread most of us believed it may just torch through the winter because of the EPO but we've been given some hope things will change.

Yep, sorry about the double post

This is the one in clay county, taken from near my house. It’s been a stressful nightmare. I haven’t heard any updates this morning but the last I heard last night, it was around 8500 acres.

One of the worst December outbreaks, just saddening the images this morning. Mayfield, KY is totally destroyed. I would be shocked if it wasn't the first EF5 since 2013. What a horrible night for those folks and so many lost lives.

We've seen some big tornado outbreaks the last quarter of this year. The -PDO/dragging Nina has proven itself. I fear the spring will be a huge tornado season for all of us.
