12z GFS is definitely going in the right direction, there is snow close to New Years in Oklahoma.

I have always thought that some of your posts leave subtle harbingers of what you see down the pipeline. I hope this post is one of them!! :D

You're reading too much between the lines. I simply have free time next week and must keep up with regular maintenance. I don't see any major pattern changes into early January. I will note once more the occasional formation of a west Gulf low this season. Another one forms on Monday. If the air on the Gulf coast was cold enough, then such a pattern would produce snow along the Gulf Coast. Fortunately, my wall is currently still holding. Last February's major breech has been repaired and reinforced. Will it hold all winter? i don't know. I have no plans to borrow another NASA hypersonic jet to head down to Sydney at this time.

Not that I believe the year but brings back memories of 2011. Sea of warmth and it snows in Midland constantly..

The certificate has expired..the admins need to fix it. Normally it says if you accept the risk it will let you go ahead and access the site..that's what I have to keep doing

Welcome here, it seems like that the Jet Stream Wall is keeping the cold away from us for now, but it's allowing it to build in Canada & Alaska.

And yes, you do need to accept it & it would let you in, it simply expired & the Admins there are working on it.

I'll just leave this right here...December 2021 will go down as the warmest on record, unless we can get a below average temp run over the next 16 days.

[TEMPERATURE DATA] [PRECIPITATION DATA]

AVERAGE MONTHLY: 61.1 - TOTAL FOR MONTH: 0.02
DPTR FM NORMAL: 11.5 - DPTR FM NORMAL: -1.33
HIGHEST: 83 ON 10 - GRTST 24HR 0.02 ON 13-13
LOWEST: 32 ON 12

Yeah I would be totally stunned to see another February. There's a reason we had to go back to 1996 or the 80s and even 1899 in some regards to even be similar  the odds of it happening again so soon are probably near zero tbh

For Houston
[TEMPERATURE DATA] [PRECIPITATION DATA]

AVERAGE MONTHLY: 67.8 - TOTAL FOR MONTH: 0.49
DPTR FM NORMAL: 11.2 - DPTR FM NORMAL: -1.51
HIGHEST: 85 ON 10, 9 - GRTST 24HR 0.34 ON 10-11
LOWEST: 40 ON 12

Lowest in Houston was 40 degrees on the 12th. Looks doubtful Houston will see a freeze in December. Maybe not until mid-January. We tied 1995's record December high of 85 twice. It's 82F now and rising. Too bad it's turning cold and rainy by Saturday afternoon.

Maybe some possible hopes for TX in early January with the 06z GEFS showing the NAO becoming more western based or neutral along with a continuing -PNA, possible Arctic air sliding down east of the Rockies towards towards the south central US.

See you in February maybe.

Larry Cosgrove signals the death knell. I do note a week or so ago he was saying it would get cold in Texas, so though I love the guy, he follows the models as much as anybody else.

"Now if you live in the south central states or Dixie (sorry, Texas...) you will be bypassed by the winter weather. The Midwest and Northeast stand to see the best chance for snow and ice (not a sure thing, but at least better odds than the southern and central tier. The Intermountain Region should see plenty of frozen precipitation, largely west of the Continental Divide. Alberta and Saskatchewan may have to endure routine bitter cold, with snow and wind events, until the January Thaw shows up around 1-10-2022."
