The 73 Mph record was from a EF-5 Tornado & it's the fastest EF-5 (Hackleburg-Phil Campbell, AL Tornado in 2011 was close with 70 mph) in the EF-5 strength, but the Pilger, NE Tornado was an EF-4 & precisely synced videos (Including Pecos Hank) showed it was moving at an extremely fast speed. (Skip Talbot had concrete evidence of it moving at least 90 mph)

Oh I'm not doubting there's been faster than 73. I just think the 73 is the "official" record.

Anyway back to today. Anyone who is under a severe thunderstorm warning needs to treat it like a tornado warning and take shelter immediately. These straight line winds are going to be just as strong as a weak tornado.

Looks like this could be a sneaky event. 2% tor risk for now but that might increase if the HRRR is to be believed. Nice supercell there in the middle.


I've got finals in the morning and I'm driving home in the afternoon so I may not get to track this one much. Hopefully I don't have to drive through anything crazy. Looks like the main action should be to the south but we'll see.

The Derecho & Windstorm in the Northern Plains set yet ANOTHER December Tornado record with 79 from the outbreak.

SPC seems pretty confident that severe weather chances will increase next week, especially along the gulf coast. 2021 could go out with a bang.

Broad slight risk up for Day 2, with SPC mentioning an enhanced risk upgrade is possible. Nothing crazy on the CAMs so far but they generally always uptrend (unfortunately) as we get closer to the event. This is going to be a dangerous event, and I would not be surprised to see some strong tornadoes.
