WOUS00 KSAT 251700

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANTONIO TX
10AM CST SUN DEC 25 1983

.....BITTER COLD ALL OVER THE STATE, OLD MAN WINTER WINNING.....

AT 10 AM THIS CHRISTMAS MORNING, THE WARMEST TEMPERATURES IN THE ENTIRE STATE WERE ONLY IN THE LOW 20S..IN THE VALLEY. THE REST OF TEXAS HAD READINGS RANGING FROM SINGLE DIGITS IN THE NORTHERN AREAS TO NEAR 10 OVER CENTRAL TEXAS AND MOSTLY LOW AND MIDDLE TEENS FOR THE REST OF THE STATE.

THE SUNNY SKIES OVER MOST AREAS WILL FOOL PEOPLE COMPLETELY. THOUGH IT LOOKS INVITING TO LET THE KIDS TRY THEIR NEW TOY/BICYCLE, BE VERY WARY OF LETTING THEM STAY IN THE COLD TOO LONG. WIND CHILL FACTORS ARE WAY BELOW ZERO IN MANY AREAS. IN SOUTH TEXAS, THE WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES ARE AROUND MINUS 10 DEGREES. REMEMBER: WE ARE NOT USED TO THIS KIND OF WINTER CONDITIONS, AND ARE LIKELY TO TRY SOMETHING THAT MAY COST MORE THAN MONEY, LIKE FROST BITTEN HANDS.

TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING SHATTERED PREVIOUS LOWS FOR DEC 25TH..SOME RECORDS HAD STOOD FOR 20 YEARS OR LONGER..HERE'S THE LIST OF NEW LOWS FOR SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST TEXAS:

AUSTIN.......... 10 DEGREES
BROWNSVILLE..... 20 "
CORPUS CHRISTI.. 14 "
DEL RIO......... 13 "
GALVESTON ...... 14 "
HOUSTON......... 11 "
PORT ARTHUR..... 15 "
SAN ANTONIO..... 11 "
VICTORIA........ 14 "

SOUTH TEXAS SHOULD BE WARMER BY TOMORROW. THE LOWS TONIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING ARE EXPECTED TO BE MAINLY IN THE 20S..WHICH MAY NOT SOUND LIKE A LOT WARMER BUT WHEN YOU DIP TO 10 DEGREES AND THE LOW TEENS..ANYTHING
HIGHER THAN THAT IS WELCOMED.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, STAY WARM.

The CMC run looks like it’s showing a little snow and some cold air for NW Texas around 190 hours out. It’s in the same timeframe where GFS was showing a snowstorm :spam:

That front next weekend is still raising my interest here now the GFS is trying to show some light snow in Oklahoma and we're talking about next Saturday night Sunday morning which the CMC already did

It should also be noted the front gets way down into Texas even Houston

The GFS has been trending colder. Let’s hope it continues with the 0z run. What about the ensembles?

The flow pattern that the latest GFS and Euro Ensembles are indicating during the first week of January will definitely deliver cold air to TX. Let's see if they remain consistent in showing this now. I feel like we will eventually get some arctic air, it's just a matter of when in my opinion.

I’m in south Louisiana. What you folks in Houston get, we many times get the next day.

This tweet posted awhile back from Eric Webb foretold it. Lets hope it continues progress, it's a REALLY slow process. Once the Aleutian ridge goes poleward and shifts away, we'll see the big Aleutian trough. That'll open up the gates, again it's a sloooow walk there.

Storm next week (now around 7 days!) is starting to make noise. Wall leak alert?

Ejection location of that ULL can be vital. Plenty of cold to feed it.

The Wall is starting to crack! Too much consistency in these runs now!

CMC is really drilling the HP down and takes the cold chunk into the Southern Plains.

1071mb HP in Canada. We've been seeing hints of extremes here and there and they're becoming more frequent. Could this be foreseeing?
