Amber Alert Issued For Alleged Stun Gun Abduction

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Tue Nov 11, 2003 8:33 am

DALLAS, Texas -- Police Monday issued an Amber Alert after they say a man armed with a stun gun entered his estranged wife's home in Grand Prairie and took his son by force.

According to police, Charles Leon Wood, 37, used the stun gun Saturday against the boy's mother in the 500 block of Luscino.

"We fought, and he kept trying to get me with that thing," Tricia Wood said of the alleged stun gun attack. "And we fought, and I started kicking him, and he was trying to get me with that thing. But when he came in, he was yelling, 'Where is he? Where is he?'"

Wood was last seen wearing a light gray sweatshirt.

The missing boy is 7-month-old Braeden Thomas Wood, who was last seen wearing a blue, long sleeve jumper with a teddy bear emblem.

Officials said the boy had been the subject of a bitter custody battle between his two parents.

Wood also reportedly vowed not to be taken alive, and may have made threats to kill himself and his wife, officials said.

Police fear that Wood may have reached an emotional breaking point.

"There's a concern about what he's done," Sgt. Alan Patton said. "Has he gotten to the mental state where he is likely to take his own life and take the life of a child due to the emotions involved with all this? That is highly possible."

Family members are terrified, but hoping for the best.

"I think it's just basically a desperation-type situation," Braeden's grandfather Tommy Johnson said. "And I understand he wants to see his son, and if he had just let things go through like he should have, he would get to see him."

The suspect may be driving a brown sport utility vehicle, possibly a tan Ford Explorer or Lincoln Navigator. A license plate is currently unavailable.

Officials said Wood is a pilot by trade, so there is a chance he could travel long distances, but that they believe he is still in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
