PS- it's still so windy here, it's insane. Too windy to cover anything. A true blue norther. It is what it is...

Technically, a blue norther is characterized by a very rapid drop in temperature, strong wind, and a dark blue (clear) sky. We're missing the rapid temperature drop (very slow drop all day) with a clear sky. Wind isn't very strong, either. Bush airport is reporting 17 kt winds but with gusts to 26 kts. Winds should be maybe 20-25 kts sustained with gusts 35-40 kts for such a front.

I'm trying to be generous.

I can't remember the last time we met the textbook criteria but the temp. gradient and wintry precip down this far south is good enough for me in 2022. I do remember the true blue northers from the old days. When I lived in Plano in 1989, there was nothing between us and Montana but a barbed wire fence with that one. I could see the cold front turn the sky blue as it passed.

We stayed all sleet in Cincy, with a few spots of snow in the northern burbs. Nearly 2 inches of sleet on the ground, what a mess!

Yeah, I only had .5 inch of Sleet, Little Rock, AR got 3 inches of sleet, & Batesville got 3.5 inches, yikes!

How much snow is on the ground?

I measured about 4 or so earlier haven't added much but it really just picked up. Airport was at 5.8 before this. I think the sleet hurt my totals vs the airport last night because I'm more south

The 0z GFS has no shortage of activity that mid February week starting around Valentine's Day with a couple close calls

It's snowing like crazy outside right now, this wave has REALLY overperformed, I've estimated 8-10 inches of snow on the ground right now, this is just insane!

Yes, I did expect a LOT of snow, but not like this!

Not quite as overperforming for me but still good snow! It’s been super powdery and there have been light snow showers all day. We added about another 2-3 inches today and (it’s hard to measure because of drifts) but I’d argue we’re at 7 inches or so. All in all a fantastic storm system and I am fully satisfied for this winter—now to get some snow for Austin and San Antonio (and maybe Houston if we’re really lucky).

Woke up to let dogs out and to my surprise the ground was white. Currently snowing very lightly. Either been doing this for a while or had a period with a bit higher rates. I did forecast a chance for flurries over ight but did not expect a dusting. No returns at all on radar but at 20 degrees it takes very little mositure to get snow. It is very dry and powdery. The only moisture is below 850mb. The Oklahoma shortwave is to our north but would not have thought is was close enough for this. And I would think I am too far from a large lake for lake effect. Some combination is giving me close to a quarter inch of snow though.

Huh, interesting; here in Austin forecast low was 19, temps were on the way down to that but around 4:30 AM seemed to have stopped and even warmed up a degree or two; not just at Mabry but several local sites.

Looks like the band of light snow showed up on SHV radar as it neared Shreveport. Very low level band and I live close to 100 miles from both SHV and FTW radars. Not fun living between radar sites.

Same thing here in Longview. I figured it would be possible but wasn't expecting it. Small consolation prize for pretty much missing out on everything else. Although my driver's side truck door was frozen shut when I left work last night... had to climb in the passenger side to be able to push it open. I didn't feel like breaking off my door handle.

We also had a dusting overnight in Paris, everything is white, and not in a good way.

If anyone has an updated site to highway conditions heading from Paris to Shreveport, 1 that takes our overnight snow into consideration. Deeply concerned because my eyesight is not great, lol

I've gone outside & Measured the snow, the drifting made it difficult to find a good spot to measure the snow, I've found a lot of 5-6 inches in snow-drifted areas, I've managed to find an 18 inch snowdrift the the edge of the driveway, & down to 2 inches in underdrifts (Snow drifted lower) a the driveway. (The cats also did not help any either, they were playing in the snow)

I managed to measure 12 inches of snow in an area that has not been disturbed very much by the drifting & not disturbed by the cats.
