Re: BOB: 02B - Tropical Depression
It’s been a tropical storm for quite some time but you can already tell it’s badly sheared. As typical with many storms in this region a displaced ULAC is shearing it and it’ll only get worse going forward, with the GFS showing this falling apart as it nears the coast.

It is not badly sheared. The llc is not exposed. Convection is strong and steady.

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.
Goal: to become a registered expert over tropical and subtropical cyclones.

It’s not exposed but it’s lacking outflow on the eastward side and convection isn’t rotating upshear.

Re: BOB: 02B - Deep Depression
The official agency, the India Meteorological Department, is classifying this as a "deep depression". Yes, they are completely clueless, it's clearly a strengthening TC, but that's the official classification. The JTWC is not the official agency in any basin.

Still remember "deep depression" 03A in 2020 while JTWC gives it 100kt. IMD is pretty much the worst RSMC.

The best thing to do now is ignore the IMD. as silly as this suggestion is, it is the best option as they are underestimating this storm too much, as usual.

This is the worse I have seen a agency on classifications. JMA for WPAC is not too stellar but is way better than IMD.

Ah, the IMD is good for a couple downcasts every season or so. Their philosophy seems to be: downcast as much as possible and hopefully it goes away.
