Flooding report from Puerto Rico=mudslides,massive floodings

Puerto Rico has suffered a good deal of floodings in the south and southeast portion of the island.Totals so far from 3-8 inches haved fallen in Patillas,Guayama and Santa Isabel.So far during this event the south portion of the island has been the most affected but other parts of the island also has seen plenty of rain like San Juan where over 3 inches has fallen so far and making this november way above normal in terms of rainfall in the month.Over 60 families haved been taken to schools to move them from the flooding areas in Patillas.

This is so far what has happened here in Puerto Rico but I will keep all here informed and dont worrie about me as I am safe and dry.Any of the members that are in Puerto Rico can report here what is going on in your area.

Good to hear you're OK Luis, but things may be rough again today as the LLC seems to have Moved SW across the DR last night and convection is building east of the low. This means you may very well get soaked again as the low tries to spin south of DR with the heaviest convection to the east. Stay safe.

Jeez, I'm sure it is nothing like with Hortense in 1996 though. To my memory, that flooding was horrendous.

Hortense was a verey big flooding event when in 1996 over 23" inches of rain fell in the cordillera central mountains at that time.

Was that more rain than with Hurricane Georges? Wasn't Georges more of a wind event for you?

I just learned that a little girl that was driven away by the current of a creek was found alive so this is great news as this event continues to unfold.

I am so glad the little girl was found and I hope PR does nto get much more rain. I know on your island with all the mountains and streams you can have severe flooding easily.
Here on St. Maarten we had 6 inches on Monday. Yesterday was raining lightly off and on all day until last night when the heavens opened up again. We must have had another 2 to 3 inches overnight.
today so far is cloudy but I can see patches of blue skies
Schools are cancelled for the day because of the weather..There are a lot of rocks and debris on the roads but I think everywhere is passable. We have been lucky with only minor flooding.
It seemed like so much rain to us but we are talking about maybe 8 inches so far and with Lenny in 1999 we had 18 inches!

That report of a person that was carried away by the current of a river and died well the latest I learned is the woman was rescued alive thankfully.But the situation every minute that passes is worse so I will keep all informed about what is going on in Puerto Rico but any other Puertorican member can also report what is going on in your area.

During a slight let up in the rain I went to Flamenco Beach for a walk in the drizzle. Ran into a visitor who can't get off the island as flights from our tiny airport are cancelled. Another friend who runs the ferry says the ferries are running (or were, but that was an hour ago...may not be the case now) but there is no way to get to the airport in San Juan as roads are too badly flooded. My girlfriend's house has rivers running through it and now the hard rain is back so I'm home where at least inside it's dry. I think most people are just staying home.

The latest reports that I haved got are the following:

100 families in SE Puerto Rico haved been moved from flooding areas to schools.

41 municipalities in the island are under a flash flood warning including the San Juan metroflex.The rest of Puerto Rico is under a flash flood watch.

Many roads are impassable and 2 bridges haved collapsed.

Many mudslides haved been reported at the cordillera central.

Rainfall Totals so far:

Patillas=9.50 inches
Guayama=8.90 inches
Fajardo=7.00 inches
These are only some of the rainfall amounts that I haved information so far but later I will get more rain totals.

So this is the latest as you can see the situation in Puerto Rico is getting worse as more rain arrives from the caribbean sea as a train effect.
