Models are showing triple digits in even Mississippi and Alabama next week. This summer is ugly.

I think the dome of death shifts east early next week allowing Texas to cool a few degrees. My guess is it won't take long before it returns. It's always hot, just a matter of how hot.

It's more than just drought that creates these patterns, only one piece. Oklahoma pretty hot, especially southwest. What the drought may do is once the ridge shifts east or west, our temps remain elevated above normal regardless until the next spike.

Same here (Except it's now today), I'm under a heat warning

I just looked at the forecast, It's expected to reach 101 today. It's not gonna be pretty.
To make matters worse, the expected low is 78 tonight

Y'all are getting what we've already been suffering through. They were keeping the Excessive Heat Warning for overnight last night for temps not dropping much below 75(?). We got to 75 at the house. But it was 78 yesterday and no warning(?)

This is a typical hot August pattern here, but since it's June (way too early), the acclimatization is off for some people, especially recent transplants from other states I'd guess.

I wonder if today is the worst of this 1st batch of extreme heat? The ensembles have been running a few degrees hot out beyond D5 and are now showing temps in the 98-100F range for DFW. So based on current performance with this pattern, that could probably be adjusted downward to seasonal heat.

Yeah the issue up here is we hadn't even been remotely hot due to all the rain lately really then all the sudden we were so it's very hard to get used to

At least it appears after today temps come down a bit

FW added the excessive heat warnings, that puts just about everyone along I-35. Low of 80 overnight. Stay cool and limit activities outdoors. Conserve power if you can as the grid peaking all time power use per Ercot this week. Last thing we need is a failure in a heatwave.

Today is the apex of the current mid and upper ridge. Thermal lower level ridge will remain, elevated heat the rest of the week until another uptick next weekend.

Waiting for 12z Euro, but as of right now, the GFS looks hot, but not quite as hot next weekend compared to this weekend. Last night's Euro is basically showing a weekend repeat. It's probably going to be around the same, but maybe we'll get more fortunate, and the ridge will nudge further east. In my area, when the ridge moves closer to the Ohio River Valley, one should watch for violent storms moving in from the east. I think that is a distinct possibility later this summer. Usually, these events start in late June into July. However, sadly that is an event that usually does not make it west of Houston when it occurs.

I hope so! I haven't been going by surface depictions of the models but been just looking at the strength of upper and mid level ridging. At 500mb next weekend's ridge is larger and stronger. It's a better indicator 5+ days out.

12z CMC joins the GFS with a system next week in the BOC. Looks like the ridge will keep all associated moisture pinned down south :sun:

GFS has been consisting on showing a Tropical System heading to the BOC in about a week or so. Hopefully here in the RGV we can get some moisture out of it.

12zGEFS forecast for Saturday 7am

Meanwhile my personal weather station already reading 100F as of 1pm :sun: Yesterday it registered a high of 106F.
