Jeremy, no one here would ever make fun of you. Don't even worry about that.

Getting your permit is so exciting. I remember learning to drive pretty well, particularily the fear in my mother's eyes, LOL. If I can offer a bit of advice, always wear your seatbelt and be aware of those driving around you. Good luck. I know you'll do great! :)

I wish you the very BEST, Jeremy! :D I once heard someone state in the past (not here but elsewhere) that those who have a disability are NOT disabled but diffabled...meaning that we can attain within reason anything that we strive to do despite differences!! :) I, like Tom (Coldfront) and Joshua have high-functioning autism called Asperger's Syndrome...I was diagnosed at the age of 35...since that disorder wasn't really well-known (introduced) until the 1990s here in the United States.

I enjoy talking with and getting to know you here, Jeremy! :)

Yes, Eric is right ... I too have a mental disasbility. It doesn't affect me that much since it is only a mild form of autism. I really have come a long way since I was diagnosed at age 14 (I am 21 now :P ); and I am very near becoming independent. :) I don't drive as of yet; but I hope to in the next 2-3 years so that I can get to places easier (at least the far-away ones). I know that you will do well on the test and know that I have 100% faith in you. :D

Eric and Joshua, so very glad I am able to post right after the both of you!! :D :D

I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome five years ago, at age 21. I could be independent, but there is no way for me to be independent without wanting to drive. I am sensitive to light (a symptom of AS), so driving wouldn't be a good idea, anyway.

ColdFront77 wrote:Good luck with your exams, Jeremy. As for your condition, no one has the right to make fun of something you have no control over. I consider you a better friend. You come across as an intelligent teenager to me. :)

For those interested, after clicking the link Jeremy posted in above, you can read check out "Asperger's Syndrome" [the condition I have] by clicking the, "Ooops... Wrong Planet Syndrome" banner at the bottom of the page. The background of the site looked familiar and then I found that link.

Jeremy its really only common sense.....just watch your parents closely once and you'll understand the main points of driving. You'll be fine.... do what you can to pass the exams with flying colors.

Well, I will tell you that I'm not mentally disabled... no I'm not organized, but I'm not disabled mentally...one thing that frustrates me to NO end is that I can't play what other kids can...can't somersault or use a trampoline...that sucks...but I deal with it...

Heck...even with your condition...you COULD NOT be any worse driver then I am. Ask my wife! I've never seen a trash can I couldn't hit.

Seriously, I am diabetic and have had some serious reactions while driving. I take precautions and am careful. There are perfectly healthy people on the roads who drive like madman and madwoman. I would not be a bit concerned riding with you in a car. Good luck on that test!!!

Hey Bro.....Good Luck with the test, no biggie!

As far as your health problem is concerned, don't EVER think that your buds here at Storm2K will think any LESS of you.....ya know, we ALL have SOME sort of physical limitations, problems. Take me for instance, I've had a speech impediment since I started talkin'...I stutter worse than Mel Tillis and Porky Pig combined, I have a HARD time talking on the phone with people or worse yet, talking to someone face to face, but now on a police radio, which I use a LOT now, funny, I don't stutter, stammer ONE BIT, reckon it's cuz I don't see the person I'm talkin' to. I'll take that back, when I've talked to Karan (pburgh) Bill, Azskyman on the phone, I don't stutter TOO bad, I'm comfortable with them, it's strangers that I can't talk to.

driver's permit

#39 Postby sunnyday » Wed Nov 12, 2003 7:38 pm

I don't believe anyone should drive before the age of 17 for a permit and 18 for a license.

People that don't have a disability also get nervous about learning how to drive and taking the test. Some people that are considered "normal" ( ) shouldn't be behind the wheel at all! We've all witnessed a few of those!

Seriously, you seem like a very conscientious fellow and that's really important when you're learning to drive and when you finally have your driver's license.
