What will be the name of the first Atlantic major hurricane?
Yesterday, I posted a question about when members thought we would see the first major hurricane. Today, I am curious about what members think it's name will be? If someone could please create a poll for this, I would appreciate it. Here are the options:
1. Danielle
2. Earl
3. Fiona
4. Gaston
5. Hermine
6. Ian
7. Julia or beyond

Crazy take that is also unlikely to come to fruition: the storm that some EPS members are trying early next month develops and then blows up in the GoM. Its small size allows it to develop rather fast and avert dry air intrusions
Danielle it is.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Also Charley. That thing was like a vicious, ill-spirited chihuahua biting the SW Florida corner.

Good examples, both were compact systems.

I want it to go for central Florida. After Elsa & Disneyland last year, it’s time for Fiona & Universal!

Isn't Gaston the bad guy from the Beauty and the Beast??
That would be quite fitting

Earl is friendly name IMO, probably because of having watched “My name is Earl”.
Fiona could be a fury, but I think the season will stumble a bit until Gaston.

I'm not a meteorologist, but I did stay at a motel 8.

With Fiona in mind, she is currently winning the poll with 42% of the vote. While any storm can be retired, Fiona just sounds like a storm name waiting for its opportunity (Katrina, Rita, Wilma, Irma, Ida...). Also, Julia is another storm that will probably end up retired at some point.

Re: What will be the name of the first Atlantic major hurricane?
If Fiona actually becomes a disaster and gets retired, I'd love to see Flavia as the replacement name; it sounds very beautiful but also, for reasons I personally cannot explain at the top of my head, fitting for a hurricane at the same time

Barring any surprises from high latitude Danielle, it's looking quite likely that Earl will achieve this status. We'll see...
