Re: ATL: FIONA - Hurricane - Discussion
Fiona is about to smack some serious mountains. Might go anemic for a bit.

Found this random live stream of a chaser, he seems to be parked in a good spot for landfall

988mb actually-- look at the table in the top right. AF dropsondes haven't been reporting surface winds for some reason, so they don't show up in the "significant wind data" table.

I'm a busy grad student, not a professional forecaster. Please refer to the NHC and NWS for official forecasts.

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.
Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.
Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information
Never say Never with weather! Because ANYTHING is possible!

Re: ATL: FIONA - Hurricane - Discussion
The station at the marina keeps reporting wind gusts over 100 mph, sustained at 69 mph. Every report is every 15 minutes so I am sure it has had sustained hurricane force winds in between.
BTW, the buoy offshore report from over an hour ago showed wind gusting to 72 knots, so I am sure they higher than that now.

Thanks for the correction, I didn't realize they weren't surface measurements.

The southern facing mountains are getting hit hard by torrential rains, I'll hate to see the aftermath once those creeks rise and head downhill.

Yes, it was actually 988mb, not 985 as I had thought.

Lots of 90-100 mph winds at around 3000 ft, probably a good sustained 70-80 mph on the ground
