I forgot to mention that my High School HAM Radio Teacher (I don't have the class anymore because I already took it) has a daughter that lives in Florida, she's been talking to him a lot on Hurricane Fiona through radio contacts.

Yes we have an I curse. But not all I storms are created equal. Judging by some of the models, I'm afraid to say that future Ian has the potential to become one of the most infamous members of the I group. Like along the levels of Irma or Ike, rather than Ingrid or Igor.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Good for you. At least this is the slowest month of the year on the island as far as tourists goes, usually.

Well, it looks like that Recon has issues, but I think that might be a good thing for them because Nine (9) is showing signs of improvement.

Once the shear abates, I wouldn't be surprised If TD-9 becomes a major hurricane before the hurricane crosses Cuba. West Caribbean waters are virgin.....MGC

Sea Temps of 88-90 F and pretty low shear in that area, wouldn’t be surprised either.

And knowing that there is still no accurate modeling of the cold front just makes living in the "Cone of Death" oh so much fun.

For all our new residents, please remember the waters of SW Florida.

A 3 can intensify rather quickly.

I watched Charley go from a 2 to a 4 in just two hours.

Do not take this storm lightly.

Same here. I lived in Port Charlotte just a short distance from Charlotte Harbor, where Charley land falled. Went right over our house. One cannot be prepared enough!

Can anyone expand on how interaction with cold fronts can increase the damage from Hurricanes? I had heard that was a big factor in Wilma's damage in South Florida. The theory was that it caused a more violent rocking motion as opposed to steady straight line winds. Having drove into it hours after it hit, it seemed like damage well beyond a Category 1.
