Looking at radar, IR and vis sat images looks like the center could be west of the Isle of Pine if it continues on a NNW motion, although the Island could be brushed by the eastern eyewall… tbd

It’s pretty flat. It probably will have little to no effect. It might even continue to strengthen and just expand the wind field a bit from land interaction.

Here we go with the classic dual vortical hot towers, major hurricane eyewall building underway.

According to HWRF it should really get going in the next 6-12 hours as far as intensifying goes.

Towers punching like that are the kick-off for Ian becoming a major. Good to have you and Aric back

A lot of ensemble members of Euro and GFS are W of the TVCN, how do you feel about the TVCN solution at the moment given the west trend on some models (and east trend on others)

I don’t know whether to like your post because of the useful information or to avoid liking it because of how concerning that is.

Seems like it made a slight wobble to the WNW vs NNW now

Yeah, this is not looking very pleasant now. West Coast of Florida folks, including those in Tampa Bay, get ready (especially those who are not familiar with hurricanes because they're from a different state or country).

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Not a common place to have landfalls and that is Tampa.

Any thoughts about whether TS Watches/Warnings will eventually be put up for the east coast of Florida?

Looking at IR, is it just me, or did Ian take a big jog to the west?

IR will give the illusion that a strengthening system is moving west or east when a blowup of convection is present.
