They got wicked turbulence and I'm sure they're fine BUT there's been no transmitted data for FORTY MINUTES

NOT THE BEST TIME!

The turbulence must have done a number on the transmitter.

I rode Hurricane Grace at sea while I was in the Navy. I saw things from the wind and water that I didn't think possible. IIRC we had about $7 million in damage to the ship. Mother Nature will show you how small you are in a hurry.

Hope you are secure, caneman. You can upload the picture here: https://imgbb.com/. Click on the blue upload button, find the pic on your computer, hit the next upload button and then it will be "hosted" so you can post it here.

Next, you'll see a thumbnail of your picture and a box at the bottom called "viewer links". Hit the "copy" button, then use the "Img" button in the post. Put the copied text in between the brackets [ ]in here[ ] of the Img tags and hit Preview. If it looks good, hit Submit and you are now an official image poster. :notworthy:

190mph on the recon radar sounds unbelievable… until you find that radar is showing the same thing at times. Watching those convective bursts late last night I knew Ian was strengthening, but I did not think it would be this dramatic. Lives are going to be changed or lost because of Ian. Hoping for the best…

Checking in from Sarasota. Wind and rain both increasing. I pumped about 1,500 gallons out of my pool yesterday and more than half of it had filled back in. Have the pump running again before we lose power. Everyone stay safe.

Can you imagine the 700ft immediate drop in altitude by the hurricane hunters from turbulence and them going back in for more passes? Those guys are extremely brave.

The ragged look of the eye from earlier is quickly correcting itself. Wow...I don't think he's done strengthening.

I'm very worried about my family members in Central and South FL right now. I'm not even sure if they evacuated to a safe location away from Ian or a sturdy storm shelter in the area. The last time I heard anything from them was yesterday, when they were telling my mom that they would let her know if they were okay after the storm passed through.

Weird storm - Naples is what, less than 50 miles from the eyewall of a Cat 4, and it's barely raining there.
Looking at the live cams from Naples, people are outside walking the beach....

Unable to convince my family to leave for shelter in the Cape Coral / North Ft Myers area after many calls this AM. Unbelievably worried right now

I haven't seen any data to support that

You can easily infer that the storm has continued strengthening over the last three hours and has likely crossed the threshold.

Looking at the pier cam. Those folks might want to go elsewhere, the water should be coming in now.

Ño reason to get hung up on calling Ian a 5 or not. The damage will be catastrophic regardless at this point

I am praying Ian downgrades some before he gets to her. I fear for them and their cattle. Stay safe all.

I'm near you, in Hudson. Looks like we've dodged a bullet (kinda), but our friends to the south and east don't look so fortunate.

God no. I hope not. I saw it had lost altitude for a minute but nothing crazy like that...I hope.

Air Force plane is flying and going to make another pass shortly.

The plane appears to have ascended, so not sure they’re going in again?

This is a long duration radar with the NHC track. You can clearly see the long term NNE movement but it is painfully slow. Seems on track for Port Charlotte with much of Lee, Charlotte and Sarasota counties in the eye or eyewall because of how large it is.
