Watching the eye, seems to be heading more easterly than I thought it would. Might end up just north of lake okeechobee
, and not by much. Nhc says he is on a 20 degrees heading now.

What an insane day. While the wind/surge situation should begin to die down, the biggest threat of Ian begins - the flooding rain.
An immense amount of rain is about to be dumped on western and central Florida.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

i watched this video a few times now and I see the problem...they never should have converted that one street into a river or a canal...bad planning

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC

Wind at 25-30 mph, gusting to 50 mph. It should decrease to about 20 MPH around midnight.

Re: ATL: IAN - Hurricane - Discussion
Been in contact with friends and family around the Cape Coral / North Fort Myers area.
Friend about 50 minutes ago in the western Cape has said they've experienced very heavy winds and minimal flooding.
Friends in North Fort Myers, similarly no flooding.
Father in eastern North Fort Myers near the river is a different story. First floor nearly flooded. Safe on the second floor for now.
Praying conditions don't change.

Re: ATL: IAN - Hurricane - Discussion
Ok everyone here’s where the hurricane-chasing rubber hits the road.
And this is no joke.
It is painfully obvious to me that many of these chasers are rookies and that Hurricane Ian is their first crack at chasing.
What they may not realize is the hard part is starting at this moment. As the sun goes down.
I carried 30 gallons of extra fuel. And a long list of supplies to last a week or more. The vehicle was always a Ford and it was also a mini-tank. Absolutely 100% essential equipment. If you’re going to play with the big dawg’s you better bring all the right tools.
These newer chasers are gonna realize real quick that they are stuck. For awhile unless they have a vehicle and the experience to extricate themselves from the disaster.
We don’t want our chasers in the food lines. But I suspect some lost their life boat… their vehicle. That puts them in the food lines unless they have something being helicoptered in.
The point is I chased 16 hurricanes for over 25 years. Cut my teeth on Cat 1’s and 2’s in Louisiana. Learned life-saving techniques in situations where it wasn’t life-threatening. Graduated slowly up the chain to Cat 5 Michael. 185mph gusts and I was 10 feet from it.
Can’t imagine Cat 4 Ian being my first crack at this. Holy cow! These new chasers are in for a very very rude awakening at sunrise tomorrow. They went in without a solid 7-day plan perhaps.
This stuff is deadly. I am concerned. Best of luck tonight to those still able to read these words. Gonna be a long one I assure you.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.
