I seriously considered driving down there to chase the storm. Then I realized something. I don't have the money to replace my car, don't have protective gear, have never ridden out anything worse than 70mph Zeta when it came through my place(still very damaging and killed two in my hometown), and I can't just drive my way back up because of likely debris. Now that I saw how bad it was, I realized I made the right choice. Watching that timelapse of storm surge was downright chilling. It just rises everywhere seemingly. I would have for sure lost my vehicle, if not my life. Especially if someone like Reed lost his, no way in hell I would have stood a chance. I have chased supercells(never caught a tornado yet) but a hurricane of that magnitude, thank goodness my gut got me thinking straight. The Teenage brain can be hard to control sometimes.

I'm very cautious about these storms, I always like to try to find Tornadoes in Supercells (If there is no close lightning). But chasing a hurricane? NOPE! I would have noped out! Too large of an area and the injury risk (ears bursting from very low pressure is one of them) is way too high.

North of Tampa, here in Hudson, sporadic rain and recorded gusts of around 40-45. Looks like it won't get much worse than that for us. Dodged a bullet.
My aunt in Cape Coral is having a rough go though, safe and dry for now, seemingly endless rain and wind (obviously), said she's sick and tired of the terror.

Hurricane Ian makes landfall around the same area as Hurricane Charley did in 2004.

Where? NHC is saying sustained winds of 115mph. How does that work? I'm not saying you are wrong. I guess I'm looking for some education on this matter. So, the hurricane right now is gusting at 50mph on the high end?

I believe he is talking about where he is at, not for the hurricane itself.

The flooding could be a serious problem for Florida on top of strong winds and storm surge.

Pretty much dodged Ian on the Florida Nature Coast, but expect blustery band driven winds overnight and sizeable storm surge floods on Thursday. Expect floods to mirror the surge of the 1993 No-Name storm, The GOM shelf between Citrus and Levy counties is the shallowest in the country, and compared to the shallow Long Island shelf. Ya'll stay safe.

Radar presentation right now on Orlando radar is interesting.... draw a line through the storm from Southwest to Northeast, and there is very little rain on the SE side of the line

Not around the same area...in the EXACT same spot - Cayo Costa. Pretty eerie.

Between 12 and 19 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 3 to 8 inches are possible in the warned area through 10:45 PM.

yep I am one right on the line and kept expecting the rain to stop but it never did, raining harder than ever now on the SE side of Orlando but just a few miles south of us...NOTHING for the past 3 hours!

This tweet(only 2 hours old) has the headline, "Tracking Hurricane Ian — Tampa Bay's first major storm in 100 years"

Is this still considered a Tampa storm being that the landfall was quite a bit south of Tampa?

No doubt the threat for excessive rainfall is panning out.
