Re: ATL: MARTIN - Hurricane - Discussion
Martin follows in Danielle’s footsteps and becomes the second surprise mid-latitude hurricane to fall short of a forecast Cat 2 intensity. The last three hurricanes have all peaked at 75 kt, which is an odd coincidence, but I think post-season analysis will change Julia and/or Lisa’s peak estimate.
Martin’s wind field is among the largest of any Atlantic TC: 800 nautical miles (920 miles) from SE to NW. It dwarfs the British Isles on the 11am forecast map.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.
