The 12z GEFS snow map is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I may be mistaken here but I don’t even remember Feb 21 looking like that.

Tropical Tidbits has it and so does Pivotal Weather.

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Sadly in south TX and the Hill Country we can definitely tell La Nina is still going on. Running rainfall deficits of close to 20 inches in some areas. Also seeing that in parts of southeast TX.

Severe drought looks to be confined to mostly to some of the hill country. And this morning's rains nibbled at the southeast edge of that and the orange extension into SE TX.

But the improvement from 4 months ago is amazing! Severe improved from about 2/3rds of Texas to maybe 10% now.

12z EPS unloads all that cold on the US, from Rockies to MS River is brutal but really everywhere. We're getting a pretty strong consensus from the ensembles. It doesn't get better than that.

We don't get this good a signal very often, 2021 being the only recent in memory with modern guidance.

I can't include the full link, but this is what Joe Bastardi said concerning the cold potiental on Twitter.
Joe Bastardi wrote:We’ve been alluding to the threat of the extreme outbreak. And I believe it’s coming the question is how long and how strong it looks like Christmas week in the deep South is going to be brutal as well as the rest of the United States

Unlike February we are at lowest sun angle, climo trends down. Longwave pattern sticks longer, mid February you know moderation is coming by the end but not late December.

I was at the Home Depot. I am sure I saw Wxman57 buying brick and mortar. He also had some portable heater and pipe insulation. He did inquire about salt, ice scrapers, and a good wide, flat shovel.

Latest CPC forecast looks good for some precipitation and has a really far southerly storm track.

However, they still haven’t really broken out the darkest purples yet.
