So is the reason the temps aren't supposed to drop much more (DFW Oklahoma etc, not people that got front later) because of mixing? Looks like temps above 850 are a tad warmer so guessing that’s it, but wanted to know if there are additional factors since it’s obviously not dew point or cloudy skies.

Mostly and a lot of the core cold up north is moving east with cyclone. Typically now is radiational cooling for maximum lows but the gradient between the big high and big low is keeping winds elevated. If it was just the high dome then temps would fall like a rock.

I figured after seeing all the forecasts and models not dropping much, but I needed to see it for myself and the skew-t really backed it up. I just want to see a single digit since we are already dealing with the cold. I’m at 10.4 so 9 is fine by me.

All semantics plenty cold and really makes little difference. 10F is the coldest December low DFW has seen since December of 1990. Dew point has fallen to -6 so there is room to fall yet.

Wind is definitely hurting us here. Been stuck at 1 for 3 hours

You always want calm winds for ideal cooling. That goes back to my days back east even. The cloudy windy nights were never the coldest outright

Big warmup for at least a week or two. Maybe storms around NYE? Certainly no winter weather probably

I'm supposed to be sleeping, but there is a water emergency at my house. The well house has froze despite 2 space heaters going there! My grandmother is going to do extreme measures to make sure that the well house is no longer below freezing.

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Hope your water situation has a good outcome, stay safe.

Houston IAH has fallen to 19F. Since 2000 only twice has it done so for the site. Jan 2018 and Feb 2021. Wxman57 can sleep well knowing IAH'S 1930's all time record low of 5F is safe.

I’m down to 9 so official single digits! Wind is still a little high for ideal cooling.

Maybe my spitball guess of 8 earlier isn’t far off.

Temps 17-18F across Houston this morning. Any colder and I'd need to wear a long sleeve shirt if I go outside. Been awake since 5am yesterday. Running the faucets every couple hours to keep the somewhat exposed pipes in the attic from freezing. I'm good for another couple of days without sleep. Think I'll go for a bike ride at sunrise. I'd take this over 80F and sunshine any day.

Got down to 7° here in Tyler at 6am. Still a bit of wind that makes it feel like -9°. When I was younger I loved this weather...now that I'm not I believe I'm ready for Summer!

Looking ahead, the SPV is about to go thru a major strengthening episode. Also Showing signs of propagating down to lower levels…major pause button on winter to start the New Year
