Gonna need to watch the pattern heading into the New Year. The GEFS and Canadian Ensembles want to drop a snow pack over Nebraska/Kansas. Where a snowpack does occur will be important for where the snow the last half of the month will be, which is when the next cold signal looks to be. The GEFS being further north would favor southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma later in the month. The GEPS being further south would favor southern Oklahoma and northern Texas.

Really bad in Buffalo, NY. Still 29K without power, major substation damage, 1st responders unable to reach victims, some responding Natl Guard had trouble reaching Buffalo and needed rescue. Looting, of course.

https://buffalonews.com/news/local/17-dead-desperation-grows-on-buffalo-blizzard-day-3-not-the-christmas-that-we-wanted/article_c6420664-849b-11ed-9e23-c3028c631897.html

17 dead, desperation grows on Buffalo blizzard Day 3: 'Not the Christmas that we wanted'

...With first responders in Buffalo and the Northtowns finally able to start maneuvering, the devastation from the fierce winter storm that battered the region with gale force winds, lake-effect snow and bitter subfreezing temperatures was coming to light.

At least 17 people were dead, and authorities said there was no question that the death toll would increase.

Some of those who died were found frozen to death in their cars. Others were found on the ground, including a Buffalo man....

Bottom up then top down. We'll already be within -AO territory when it happens before it tanks. It's a milder pattern right now but it's a mild pattern because of wave-1 Aleutian low attack. Seeding the fruits of labor. Models are already hinting at EPO relaxation in the long range.

Holy moly, that would be a Massive SSW if it verified, was there a massive SSW in January 2021 before it's effects came here in February 2021? I would like to know how strong it was.

Yes there was. Around the same period as well late December to early January. Aleutian low wave 1 pattern kicked off the SSW. This is not a pseudo Aleutian low pattern, it is one. The recovery of the stratPV now just sets it up to be a major one if it occurs.

Just a gorgeous winter day. Sitting oitside smoking chickens with a Negro Modelo in hand. Taking advantage of my remaining days off before going back to work. All good things must end.

Winter can now be over, as far as I'm concerned. Temperature is up to 60 here in SW Houston, and 70s start Wednesday. May be near 80 on New Year's Day. Now THAT'S winter! Time for some biking.

Ntxw, I think you meant epo coming back instead of relaxation but I could be incorrect. 8-)
