ThunderSleetDreams wrote:Been absent more than normal for this time of year. I'm headed to Colorado to carve up some mountains, but wanted to drop in and say that I REALLY REALLY like the look of February for most of the month in Texas.

It looks active and chilly with all forms of precip on the menu given the coming pattern.

I'm not as concerned about the SE ridge as some of you, and the ensembles really aren't either. If the ridge tries to flex, it will be a slower step down process and that's okay because it will lay a lot of snow down to our north. Quicker, sharper shots tend to waste cold for us and they are usually accompanied by a lack of precip.

Heading to Crested Butte this weekend for a week! Hoping we get smacked from a storm on Monday!

18Z GFS has no snow for most of TX, but a few intense squall lines. The tornado yesterday passed about 1/4 mile from our office in SE Houston. I measured exactly 2" of rain and had wind gusts near 50 mph. Quite a squall line.

This is a textbook Ice Storm setup for someone in the southern plains, hype should start cranking in earnest.

Meanwhile the GFS can’t get out of its own way…nudges the Arctic HP east like it’s light as a feather, Which we all know it’s not. why is it the same broken record issues with that model ??

Rather have 5 inches of sleet than .10 of freezing rain.

Darn near all of the CMC ENS members now showing freezing rain/sleet next week. Solid agreement with its OP run.

Would you folks consider the CMC more accurate than the GEFS?

NWS Norman is already putting 3 consecutive days of ice starting next week. Usually they wait to pull the trigger on those things. I’m seeing some good support for ice storms but I still think it’s much too early to call that, especially given how much temperatures can change even 5 days out.

I don’t mind .10 of ice with sleet and snow on top. But a legit ice storm? Ugh. No way. Rain only in that case please.

What is the timing on this? Trying to figure out a in-school workday for yearbook kids next week. Planned on Tuesday. But, iffy if it will start during the day or later.

What models are showing Oklahoma with ice? Only ones I saw had ice in Texas but dry in Oklahoma.

DFW finally hits 32F for the first time this month. I was beginning to wonder if we'd take a goose egg for January.
