welp. it happened. big limb has fallen...not sure if it's done damage but it's covering my patio. My elms are about 60-70' tall so it's kind of miraculous it didn't do more damage--although we'll see when the sun comes up.

Hasn't been real bad here yet, but Abilene is about to be pummeled by the looks of that radar loop :double:

I am not a meteorologist. Anything posted by me should not be taken as an official forecast. Get your information from respected sources such as NWS and NOAA. I get my weather information the same way Hank Hill does ..... I look out the window and say ... "YUP".

40k customers now without power across the SA metro as a result of downed power lines due to ice. Stay safe today everyone.

The Ice Storm warning sure did expand over night. Going to be a long day for sure. Current temp at DFW is 28 and expected to stay in that 28-30 range through tomorrow afternoon.

Power out here in far south Austin. Twitter reports show devastating impacts here from freezing rain. And we’re just getting started. Ugh.

Steady rain in the Houston area. Just need it to stay above freezing. I want nothing to do with ice-induced power outages. Been there. Done that. No thanks.

30.7F with light freezing rain falling in Longview and more rain on the way. Roads shouldn't be bad here. There's ice accumulating on plants and my truck has a light glaze.

Tyler is at 29F and I'd imagine the situation is much worse over there.

The question is how long do we stay below freezing..

Air aloft is above freezing throughout the precipitation layer (up to about 12,000 ft). HRRR indicates warming aloft all day today, so no ice for us. We'll just have to enjoy temps in the upper 30s with rain. Missing out on all the winter weather fun of those in DFW and Austin, I'm afraid. I'll remind those of you trapped in your homes hoping the power stays onr that we never have ice storms in July. Cold = bad. :firedevil:

Precip starting in FW, good news is that it’s predominantly sleet. The higher % of this QPF we can as sleet the better

Yikes, this could could really ugly! latest HRRR has bulls eye on Metroplex next 36 hrs…solid 3/4 to 1 1/4 “ QPF field. Need these temps to rise ASAP!!! It’s hinting that it’s warming quicker later tonight but not sure if we can trust these modeled temp outputs.

Image

To illustrate the warming, here is the Frz Rn accumulation, really cuts into amounts as you head east/north showing signs of above freezing temps as the bulk of heavier precip arrives

Moderate sleet showers ramping up

Edit: changed over to Frz Rn quickly, not a good sign
