And their "forecasts" have much to be desired, too.
I'll take the NWS any day!

Marny was the AM off-camera OCM coach/supervisor, and Terri had that job at night..I can't speak for Rick, but it sounds as if there's a supervisory shakeup...add the years of experience they had (Marny and Terri had been at TWC almost since the beginning), and the advent of the "blonde-blue" bevy recently hired...

If this goes through as it seems, expect Cheryl Lemke to be next on the chopping block, followed by Sharon Resultan and Mike Seidel. What a WASTE.

BTW, I agree on Sandra Diaz... :-?

Wait a minute, did I hear that you're perennial favorite Lisa Mozer is not there anymore either? When did that happen (as I don't watch twc all that often).

Lisa was fired a few months ago. I remember posting a chat transcript from lisamozer.com that had some hints that she was probably fired. Nobody believed me , but here we are 2 months later and she hasn't gotten one iota of airtime. Speaking of which, I think a few nay-sayers owe HD an apology.

Well, they haven't changed their website yet...Rick, Marny and Terri are still shown in "On Air Personalities" and "OCM Photo Request" pages.

IMHO, out of all the "freshman" group (Stephanie Abrams, Alexandra Steele, Hillary something, Eboni Dion, and whoever is hosting that utterly useless "On The Road" segment), only Eboni Dion has "it"...diction, phrasing and effortless delivery on-camera, that an OCM should possess.

There's so much "fluff" lately that I have reservations as to why they call it "The Weather Channel" at all anymore.

Besides, I get my wx HERE...why go elsewhere? :D

I believed you. I have not seen her on TWC since then.

I totally agree. Eboni is one of the best that TWC has right now. Hillary Andrews is not quite as bad as Lisa Mozer, but she is the worst that they have right now. And the chick that you're referring to is Kelsa Kinsley, who hosts TWC "Road Crew".

BINGO! Exactly the right words.

And OtherHD... IMHO Hillary is a million times worse than Lisa was. The few times I have watched her she has forgotten what she was talking about in midsentence, sat on camera like a deer in the headlights not knowing what to say, and other flaws. She lacks the basics... all of them.

I believed you as well.

If the older OCMs are the ones being let go (and or fired)... then Sharon Resultan wouldn't be one of them. Mike Seidel is one of the few popular ones on the network.

They appear to be going for "eye candy", rather than SUBSTANCE.

Pre-1996, they were the "channel of choice"...everyting afterwards has been more like an increasingly severe migraine.

Ah so she was moved out somehow. Thanks for the details. Yes streetsoldier is accurate as they're going for "appear"ance over "substance". Guess we'll just have to watch the Wizard of OZ tonight to get our no-fluff tornado fixes. Look how old that movie is, and no one 'moves it out & off the network' permanently for 'newer tornado blood' as it were. It's still a classic. :P  :D

Now that the tornado scene is over, I'm changing it to watch something else ...

And let me tell everyone the special effects for that tornado in the Wizard of OZ is absolutely superb! ... very realistic ... I believe Warren Faidley (renowned storm chaser) makes a comment on a storm chaser's special about how realistic the tornado looks ... I fully agree ...

Not that this is on the subject, but I had a fantastic interview once with a person who knew exactly how that tornado was made on Wizard of Oz. Using fuller's earth, no less.

Anyone want to head on over to "The Front" for lunch. Bet we'd get all the skuttlebut about who's in and who's out.

Bloody Thursday

#39 Postby Mr Bob » Mon Nov 17, 2003 12:16 pm

Terri and Marnie were let go last thursday...Rick was either let go or walked early in the week. Apparently over 30 people were let go last Thursday, most in the IT area.

From what I can gather the cuts were made to provide more money for programming. Yes, more things like Storm Stories..etc etc...A sad day for Terri and especially Marnie who had been there since almost the beginning...a nicer person you will not meet in the media industry... :(

That stinks. I thought that Rick, Terri and Marnie were all good OCM's. And TWC definitely does not need more programs. Soon, they will be like M-TV: A channel that was good when it was 24 hours of music videos. TWC was good when it was 24 hours of covering the current/forecasted weather. There is just too much fluff now.
