#FABIEN made history in the South-West Indian Ocean this Tuesday evening, May 16*, becoming the latest INTENSE TROPICAL CYCLONE (ITC) in the season ever recorded in the basin.
*winds at 95kt & pressure 958hPa at 18UTC
old: May 10, 1986, Lila/ex-Billy, 100kt
Another record established by #FABIEN for the South-West Indian Ocean: the northernmost latitude (closest to the equator), all months combined, for a system reaching the stage of a tropical cyclone (>=64kt) , here around 5.5°S on 05/15 at 12UTC, beating BENTO (nov 2004).

Bento was the SHEM 'twin' of NHEM Agni, which also "set a record" of sorts, for having its precursor circulation dip just south of the the equator.
