But doesn't the weather channel get their information from Knabb though? And he's incredibly respected when it comes to the tropics.

I am quite sure Knabb periodically writes up his analysis for each on-camera person to refer to as they come on to their shift. Just as John Hope did, or Brian Norcross, etc. Some just have a better background in tropical to be able to interpret his written briefings.
Also, I did not mean ad revenue was the ONLY objective, just the #1 objective---as with most corporations.

As far as current conditions, one factor is never mentioned: we are approaching Magic Week (Sept 1-7)---when even a school of dolphin swimming in a counterclockwise dance can create enough vorticity to initiate tropical cyclone genesis. Or a cruise ship serving chile for dinner, can create enough rising air several hours later, to set off massive convection, then dropping pressures. Or so it seems.

Or more realistically, early September is when the oceans have reached their maximum heat content, and begin to release this massive heat back into the atmosphere.

Which raises a quick question. Anyone know what was the weakest named storm to have it's name retired??

I think that'd be Erika 2015.

Both should have been retired imo.

Hopefully Ian taught everyone a lesson in this regard.

Wow, even the infamous 2013 got in on the "'I' Curse." This I did not know until now, had been sure no names would have been retired during that season.

Very likely. Or the NHC forgot to change it to TD.

Not sure about "DB", but "transitioned" might imply status change? If so, then not PTC but potentially TD.

I'm going to assume this is upgraded to TD 10, there are enough obs (surface buoy data) + satellite presentation to warrant this over a PTC upgrade.

Here's my favorite hurricane fun fact, there are 9 "I" female names retired. The 2nd most popular letter to be retired is F, with 10 combined male or female names. If the HAFS-B is right, there will be as many female I storms retired as any other letter.

Visible Sat loop shows some dry air getting ingested into the northern area.
Hope it does not collapse.
