It's tricky to keep track when there are 3 planes out there now (2 to Idalia, 1 to Franklin).

NOAA3 to Idalia is having signal problems, signal could come and go from it, but the AF planes are doing fine.

It will be interesting to follow the recon center fixes this evening to see if Idalia gets pulled to the right of the official track in the near term by the mid level NW shear. Usually these small moves get smoothed out in the end, but sometimes a tug here or there can change the track a little.

Tallahassee is under a hurricane watch now in addition to the tropical storm warning. That last westward shift was enough to warrant that. Not a high chance of hurricane force winds here but we’re being told to prep for Cat 2 winds as a precaution.

Why is the radar so bad in that area? We should get better equipment. That’s the fuel lane for these things.

That's Cuban radar. Pretty good considering overall quality of their infrastructure.

I posted right before seeing that loop. That one is way better than what I was seeing.

I was thinking a malfunction of their navigation system that they managed to resolve?

Uhhhh.... This has a strong pressure gradient, it wasn't there on the morning recon flights.

The radars there belong to Mexico and Cuba. I imagine radar stations get expensive.

That’s pretty low for a tropical storm isn’t it?
