I'd wait for the dropsonde to confirm the pressure.

That’s pretty low for a tropical storm isn’t it?
Yes it is, usually that happens with larger storms.

Looks stationary to me and given the potential eye attempting to open up I'm guessing that it's likely deepening atm.

Might actually be closer to 985ish, given the low bias of NOAA extrapolations earlier today.

Does anyone remember what IAN did within 24 hours? Like a 90 mile shift south. For those new to Florida….Many may see the shift west and feel all warm and fuzzy. Don’t go there just yet…Stay Vigilant!

NOAA and AF planes have been reporting the same pressure
The NOAA pressures on their extrapolated obs have been too low as opposed to the AF plane. The dropsondes have been correct

Re: ATL: IDALIA - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Extrap 980 from h70 cruising altitude would probably mean ~982-983mb, not bad for being that sheared and free of deep convection in the W & NW quadrants.

Gonna go out on a limb and guess 75 knots by the time the current mission has ended this evening.

I'd say that's probably correct too

The planes are collecting data at different heights in the storm

Just wanted to mention two useful tips for those in the path of the storm. Cheap flashlights can be found in Home Depot or Lowes in the landscape section, buy the solar landscape lights. They are really cheap, can be charged during the day outside, and used inside where needed. Also make sure your fence is attached to your house with Tapcons. Oftentimes the post is only cemented in the ground next to the house but not physically attached to it. In many cases it changes how the insurance carrier grants coverage. I've had many clients get the fence covered by their policy or even lose coverage of thousands of dollars for just a couple dollars of screws.

Seems to be intensifying at a pretty decent clip, pressure a bit lower than I was anticipating.

The tampa met's slide from WATCH OUT STORM to "surge" at 5pm was quite interesting, gotta keep the public engaged when they evacuate people.

I wouldn't get warm and fuzzy unless it has already moved north of your location. Even that didn't work out for me with Jeanne.
