Waiting for dropsonde to confirm but no Cat 5. Looks to be 924mb, 130 knots easily however.

That data supports an intensity of 130 kt. It probably held steady through the day.

Peak winds were in the SE quadrant last time. If it’s a Cat 5 — and that’s a big if right now — those winds might be found there

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

So here’s the question, after another pass or two, are they going to go with 155, or are they going to pull the trigger and go with 160.

Could be the case. We'll have to wait until they sample the rest of the system (next pass).

If they find the winds it will be upgraded, otherwise no.

I'd think 150 mph (130 kt) for the intermediate advisory. If stronger winds are found, they may issue an update and reflect it in the 11 pm advisory.

Franklin poses no threat to the US mainland, hence the lesser interest.

Below 919 mb is the usual pressure for a cat 5 and Franklin is so close the winds may catch up tonight.

I know you can still get a long thread for OTS storms look at Sam in 2021. All I'm saying is that if Franklin was the only storm out there it would had a longer thread than it has now.

Re: ATL: FRANKLIN - Hurricane - Discussion
It has to be one of the strongest storms ever at such latitude in the open Atlantic (not Gulf). I can't think of the last time there was such a low pressure at that latitude.
