Re: ATL: IDALIA - Hurricane - Discussion
Idalia's IR appearance continues to improve and has a similar structure to similar, monster Gulf hurricanes (Michael comes to mind).

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Haven't seen any warnings lately but earlier today Collier County had several warnings.

That really does remind me of Michael the night before.

That's pretty much where it's at right now. And it's clearly bombing, you don't think it will intensity any more?
Lack of time over water is the main thing in my opinion on why it won't climb much higher, but like I said, it's going to be bad no matter what and I really hope folks go out of there while they had the chance.

Getting some good bands rolling through Sarasota. Heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and wind gusts in the mid to high 30's.

Pines bend, oak does not.
Pines here snap unfortunately. Saw it with Michael. You could see where the wind changed direction on I-10. The healthy live oaks held up well.
Didn't lose any oaks, but five pine trees came down. Four on my house.
I experienced that with Ike back in 2008. Huge pine fell on the house. Had to have a 110 ton crane pull it off the house.

I'm chasing Idalia right now, I spent the day scouting locations all around the big bend. All I can say is good luck to any other chasers out there. There is a seriously limited number of *good* spots along the coast to chase this. I can see someone getting in trouble if the eye comes in along one of the remote wooded sections. The trees look like toothpicks. It would be very easy to get stuck there, especially with it coming in during the dark.

IsabelaWeather wrote:Poonwalker wrote:Tallahassee is in trouble. Hope they evacuated. Looks pretty loaded even on the west side.
Why would you evac in Tally? Usually you should evac if you face surge, you run from water and hide from the winds. People evacuating in places that arent going to surge hurts the people who really need to evac.
Cat 3/4 winds can take roofs off of homes especially old ones and trailers. Toppled trees and tornadoes are big risks too. Why stay in a house in harms way is the question. If I was there I would have already sent my kids and parents somewhere else.
