Looks like NHC is starting to lean towards Philippe becoming dominant, as the new forecast is up to 50kts in 5 days.

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

Philippe has at the moment ACE of 4.2 and with what the models are showing, it may reach 14 units or maybe a little more when it ends.

Re: ATL: PHILIPPE - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Philippe and Rina are rather close in proximity this morning. The latest NHC advisory had them separated by about 560 miles. That would rank them as the 16th closest pairing of tropical storms (or stronger) since 1851 according to HURDAT. The only closer approaches since the turn of the century have been Gaston and Hermine (2004, ~315 mi) and Helene and Joyce (2018, ~450 mi).

Seeing Philippe and Rina this close together is so cool. They might not (yet) be strong storms, but this Fujiwhara interaction is just as cool.

Looks like it has a proper LLC again after likely degenerating yesterday for a bit. Probably will be adjusted in TCR. The peak is also up to 60 kt but NHC said upward revisions are likely.
Edit: Yeah it’s def closed since the ASCAT pass revealed this:

The 12z GFS wants to strengthen Phillipe steadily from now through Monday, reaching close to major hurricane status.

Almost like a water ballet? I wonder just how long these 2 systems will stay active? Maybe break a longevity record?

So basically, are the 2 cyclones preventing each other from strengthening, being so close in proximity?

Philippe has strengthened to 45 kt and has deepened to 1001 mb. This is faster than the NHC anticipated.

Each situation (in regards to Fujiwhara) is unique, but in this instance we can definitely see their proximity is limiting organization (more so in Rina's case). Rina is experiencing strong, deep-layered shear which is being enhanced by the outflow of Philippe. This has caused the LLC to be on the western edge of the convective envelope this afternoon. Notice the almost complete reversal of wind direction from the upper through lower levels:

Re: ATL: PHILIPPE - Tropical Storm - Discussion
Recon found 49 kt fight-level winds, which translates to 44.1 kt. The NHC will probably set the next advisory to 45 kt because of this.

The center is moving almost to the south and convection is trying to get closer.
