Might challenge Patricia for strongest Mexico landfall from an EPAC storm. I believe Patricia was 130kts at landfall

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

Fun fact: Lidia reached WMG eye much faster than Bolaven.

How populated is the area Lidia hitting? I don't know if this will be a Michael or an Idalia type situation but definitely alarming that we have a Cat 4 heading to Mexico with no signs of weakening!

Re: EPAC: LIDIA - Hurricane - Discussion
Puerto Vallarta has a lot of older multi story hotels right on the beach so this isn't going to end well.

Re: EPAC: LIDIA - Hurricane - Discussion update: 140 mph
I was about to write this off as Pamela 2.0 yesterday. Now this might be a Cat 4 Mexico landfall (the eye is less defined in recent frames so it might have peaked). Really getting Michael and Ian vibes from this, a storm that managed to align itself with the shear just right to get ventilated and RI near landfall.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

This should pass south of Puerto Vallarta by a bit based on current motion but surge could be a bit issue given how the bay is shaped (though without any models in front of me I don’t want to say anything definitive).

Re: EPAC: LIDIA - Hurricane - Discussion update: 140 mph / Makes Landfall
The area where Lidia is making landfall has a significant mountain range right up the coast - the Sierra Madre Occidentals. Mountains + hurricanes = tremendously rapid weakening at landfall. It'll weaken to a remnant low about 6 hours after landfall.

With a 140 mph landfall, Lidia is now tied for third strongest wind hurricane on the Pacific side of Mexico.

I'm sure there has been more cat3s and cat4 and maybe even cat5 landfalls than that. No way of really knowing before satellites and no recon or obs.
