In all likelihood, December 2023 will tie for the 5th warmest at DFW with an average temp of 52.8*F.

Winter is definitely shrinking. The weeks leading up to Christmas tend to look and feel more like Thanksgiving used to.

I'm not entirely sure of the best place to post this (I'm not finding a general weather/climate thread for Texas), so I'll leave it here for now...

Also, 2023 was the hottest year on record in Texas...

The main thing that stands out is the top 5 hottest years for all 3 metros are within the last 20 years...

Got a Tempest Weatherflow station from Santa for Christmas. Temporarily set it up on a semi- sheltered fence post in backyard. Absorbing some radiant heat from fence (showing 75 when surrounding stations show 68-70).

Ordered the pole mount. Planning to install it on a raised fence picket I had leftover from the ice storm repairs last year. There is a clearing between surrounding trees in corner of my yard that I can raise between eight and 10 feet off the ground.

Was thinking of side of roof, but have gutters everywhere, it gets hot in Summer, and "the boss" didn't like that idea of poking holes near the roof. :P So It's more accessible and out away from the house in a clear spot near trees.

Used Bill Ponder's discount code, and am looking forward to reporting measurements once permanently installed! :)

EPS trends, I have never seen a signal light up and go southward that quickly.

I bet TheProfessor is going to be dumped on first before I get it, or the really heavy stuff trends over me instead. :cold: :double:

Got to get cold first before any confidence, we're heading in that direction. I know we keep saying it will get colder for some time now, but we're now just hitting January tomorrow! Really do like the look up north. As much as we all would like instant validation but it's a slow process. Canada doesn't get frigid overnight that quick.

Getting cold air in place is a positive step in an El Nino winter. Hoping the moisture will aligns with it.

I'm a believer of opposing patterns in a developed ENSO state delivers change. Like in a La Nina having a nino-esque pattern tags in moisture and proper 500mb blocking to deliver storms with cold up north.

In an El Nino, a La Nina-esque pattern builds cold while the Nino STJ still goes on. Probably why first year El Nino/first year La Nina delivers some memorable events. You have a new base state with lingering old base state.

10 ft should be plenty. Get some decent wind readings as well. I just put mine on the top of my roof here in Denver. Only issue is, when there isnt much weather and things are calm, my temp is a tad warm. Cold air sinks and finds the valleys, creeks, and low points here. It's wild. My overnight temps girate wildly with a slight breeze depending on many factors. Its wild.

Very good point. I think most of Texas will see winter weather this Jan. This pattern is coming in with an attitude.

For me here in Denver, it looks like it will be very cold Jan for us.

If the 12z Euro went out a little further, it would likely show a winter storm over the state, got the cold air in place and a piece of energy coming out of the desert southwest from california

-PNA period with -NAO. Interior west should have a wild, cold month.

Also, it’s now looking like a PV split is still very much on the table instead of just a stretch.

You won’t make it 2.5 weeks into 2024 before that dream goes away.
