DFW recorded 0.4” of snow for Sunday but only T of liquid equivalent. Impressive ratio!

Set record low max (22) for yesterday and tied record low min (11) for today. Record low max for today should fall as well.

Would’ve been great to get more precip, but this cold wave has been good!

FWD updated graphics to say slick roads in DFW. Maybe they will call school tomorrow? Not sure.

Shocking we got this “much” snow. Maybe .25 to .5 or so. Nice to see white on everything. More than what I would call just a dusting.

Yea will be interesting to see how schools handle this tomorrow. Most of what fell where I’m at was dry type of snow so it just blew around and not even covering road now. We cancelled our basketball practice for today to keep kids off roads.

Steve McCauley:

“The snow/sleet developed much farther to the west than what I was expecting. The 1 to 2 inches snow/ sleet which was forecast to fall east of the Metroplex leaving us with just a trace appears to have backed its way west and got much of the DFW area overnight and is now only slowly winding down. No doubt there will be slick travel with temperatures staying below freezing.
I will be spending part of my day to see where I went wrong.”

It probably isn’t an issue until refreezing tonight. There will likely be some sublimation as well of natural evaporation.

I just read that DFW reported 1.5” of snow. That’s as much as we got in Oklahoma, so a nice surprise for north Texas to wake up to. Sounds like a lot of the locally heavier amounts were “lake effect” due to the cold north wind.

Correct me if wrong… this snow is a result of Lake Effect snow soley?

So was even West Tarrant lake-enhanced? I can’t imagine? Usually we all get a tiny narrow band of that. This seemed bigger.

I think it can’t all be lake.

It started with some lake-enhanced snow. But much of the area is seeing quite a decent snowfall this morning despite unimpressive radar. It's actually very small amount of qpf but it's in the single digits and low teens. You don't need much so cold.

DFW airport 11F and 1.50mile visibility. Snowing pretty good.

Mid cities and Tarrant county “jackpotted” with this event but most of the region got a nice surprise too.

As mentioned, a lot of the more impressive totals were likely due to lake effect which is certainly a rare phenomenon for N Texas and not something local forecasters bother with. We’ll always remember the MLK weekend lake effect snows lol.

Well, woke up to a mostly white ground in Longview. Not enough to cover all of the grass. Probably less than a half inch combined freezing drizzle, sleet, snow. The roads are completely covered and many are very icy. I drove in to work and it wasn't that bad, but as traffic drives on it today it should compact it into more solid ice. Not much, if any, melting until tomorrow when the sun comes out, but won't get above freezing until Wednesday. Travel will be hazardous through then.

This is an interesting localized event case study.

Funster nailed it with his wishcast forecast except for the powerless homes part which was not a wishcast. lol

What a nice surprise. Probably got just under an inch using my index finger ruler and still coming down.

Before 2021, DFW was on a crazy long streak of not breaking or tying any record lows during the winter. Now, we have seen records fall every winter since then. Also, going back 36hrs, all the models were too warm with the Euro and GFS having DFW in the low 20s this morning! The Canadian and its hi-res short-range companion were the only models to come close.
